They are less than the 2mb limit and in jpeg format but I keep getting 'Error this upload failed'???

It's easier to use something like photo bucket and link the pictures in your posts.

Oh and try clearing your browser cache for your current problem.

I use Flickr, upload, lots of storage for free, then just copy and paste in.
