As promised folks - Clive was kind enough to drop me a line on the proposed November date...

Back to Basics - November Course 2014

Where - Autobrite HQ, Stoke on Trent (ST5 0UU)
When - Saturday 8th November 2014

Just booked in on Saturdays course after a cancellation.  Probably safer to get some polishing practice in before a car I own.

Great stuff Simon - i hope you enjoy!

Get stuck in and don't be scared to ask questions of Clive and Kevin

Another good heads up chaps-thanks. I quite fancy attending one of these myself at some stage so will give them a call to see what's available.

If your going to auto brite HQ mate good luck with your wallet.

Ask to try out hellshine and casm

I don't really know what to say..... probably thanks for the financial warning would be polite, but it'll make absolutely no difference at all, not a jot, nil, nada, **** all!

I can even predict thne outcome LOL. Guess my only hope is that they say they're full up!

It's almost like being in wonkas factory with all the coloured bottles and tubs looking like sweets glistening on the shelves!

It's sooo good! I need to go back.

Stop looking at the shelf in your Garage Carl!! :giggle:  ;)

That is kinda true Chris, I've shocked myself that my huge array of qds is slowly but surely depleting!

Maybe I need to send off my list to Santa tonight.

Anyway a trip to Amy's parents house just before Christmas should see me stocking up on AD (hopefully) I've used all my FAB within 2 month, what a product.

you might be in luck (well sort of). They were fully booked up today when I rang, so I asked to put my name on the reserve list.  4 hours later I got a call as someone had dropped out.

I can still remember my first and second thoughts when I entered the shop.  First was "I cant beleive all this stuff is for cleaning cars" and second was "how the f**k did they get that Alfa in here.

And the 3rd will be how the **** am I going to hide this lot from SWMBO.....

Anyone know of any wet sanding courses??

So who made it along to AD HQ on Saturday for the Back to Basics?

I was following the Facebook feed....

It looked a little damp and cold - but hope it was worthwhile

Cars worked on looked like a Honda Civic Type-R and Suzuki Swift Sport.... both in Red.

Both with soft paint

Maybe that was deliberate

I made it along on Saturday, it is in fact my hand on the DA in the facebook pic. :D

The weather didnt help, bit cold & damp.  The guys Kev & Clive clearly know their stuff well, and are good at passing that knowledge over.  Most of what can be said has been in the earlier posts.

It is at the end of the day a back to basics course, so for anyone who has a good idea about a proper wash routine maybe wont take a huge amount away from the morning session.  In the afternoon the polishing session was where I picked up more to be honest, and again it was clear that Kev and Clive were talking from years of experience.  They were happy to talk answer questions and talk around anything detailing in a down to earth friendly way, a real no question is too daft approach.

If i were to speculate on the choice of cars I would guess they were looking for something with not too bad paint and no protection.  No correction was attempted on the cars, just wheel decon, foam, wash & dry, though all well presented and interactive if you fancied getting wet.  There was a lance product applied that used to be called curious and it did give a better finish to an unprepared car than I would have expected.  Cherry glaze was then applied, followed by spray abyss on the bonnet of the swift as a demo.  Also demo'd was the repel window sealant.

sadly we didnt get a preview of the sales which is a shame, but still picked up a few bits.

Thanks for the update Simon - a pretty fair summary of the day.

Hopefully you got out of it what you aimed to improve/learn.

I found Clive and Kevin very honest and helpful indeed.

Time to put it into action now....

lol, yeah that was the plan for today but some muppet was using two browsers when placing the order and the DA arrived but without polish.  A big thankyou to Dave @ cyc who sorted me out and put the sonax polish in the post for me, which may just turn up tomorrow.  Doesnt deserve to be buried in this post, but couldn't recommend cyc highly enough, fantastic customer service.

Tomorrow, I think the plan is to use the paint cleaner polish (liquid gold) on the sides as there isnt much (visible swirling).  Depending on the postman then maybe one or two passes on the roof, bonnet & a pilars with the DA using sonax 04/06. (any pointers on which pad to use from the group buy?)

Also I'm a little torn as to whether to use the prima amigo glaze I have for fear of reducing the sealant bond and therefore longevity over winter, any thoughts?

Anyway, sealant of choice then a coin toss between the britemax liquid wax and the nattys paste  (thanks ste) for gloss.

Good Good.

Without physical inspection of your car - hard to call.

On the GB pads - i would suggest starting on Blue if you are using Sonax 04-06.

Any heavier defects - move to the Orange; then Green for Glaze and Black for liquid waxes.

...that's my rule of thumb at least with these type pads.

Generally after Sonax i would go with a wipedown using CarPro Eraser then seal.

Hope this helps.

I agree with Steve on Pad choice...ALWAYS start with a light pad and see if its working, if not, move up

You probably wont need the Eraser if waxing, but definately will if finishing with a Sealant

I wouldnt bother with the Amigo on this occasion either

Good luck

thanks chaps.  I dont have eraser, so would 50% IPA or a quick wash be better before sealant?

Corrected a mini with 04-06 and orange pad this weekend. Looked great!!
