Another question for those that know LOTS about computers

Featured Replies

Hopefully all the techie types out there can help me with this one.

I often get prompts from the computer that the file OLEAUT32.DLL is out of date. Often this is when i'm trying to install a newer version of software, for example, Acrobat Reader. How do I update this? I think i've seen it prompt me to run Setup again. Do I need the installation disks to do that? I don't have them. Is there another way to fix it? Its windows 2000 Pro by the way.

Many thanks in anticipation

Do the programs you are trying to install give you the option to replace this file. Most of the information I have found on this mentions programs offering you the chance to overwrite the out of date file.

Check out this link http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;174135#appliesto

You might be able to downloadand install the vb6 runtime libraries to repair this from here

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q235420/

It contains the latest version of this file and is probably the best place to start

I've never had the option of updating it. I'll have a look at those links and see what happens.
