HID's?

Featured Replies

Iv been playing with the idea of getting some HID's for the octy but just cant decide.

Whats everyones opinions of them?

I won't get into the legalities, but please don't put them into reflector headlights as really do dazzle. If you have projectors, its your call.

Fit them!

I have fitted hids to fogs and raised them a little and use them as headlights. I know the beam pattern is incorrect but they dont dazzel any1 and I can see perfectly, plus they look good too.

Ive never had issues mate :)

The only reason why people get dazzled from HIDs is because they're either fitted wrong, or the allignment it out. Best thing to do is take it to your local garage and get them to allign them

Wow, how irresponsible. How can they possibly not dazzle if you've had to angle them upwards? You may as well be driving with main beam on all the time. If you hadn't noticed, headlights and fogs deliberately point downwards for that reason.

I really hope I dont meet you coming the other way, of course they dazzle. Foglights aimed correctly dazzle with halogen bulbs in, and you've made it worse by aiming them upwards to point straight at the oncoming drivers eyes. Foglights by their beam design have massive light scatter and that is why they should only ever be used in FOG. I hope you get stopped one day, the fine may make you think twice.

HIDs can be used in reflectors, my previous Audi A8 had factory HID's fitted in reflector headlamps with auto levelling and washers. All you need to remember is there are two types of HID bulbs, ones that end in R and ones that end in S. IIRC the bulbs ending in R are for reflector lenses.

I get no bother with the way its setup. All I did was tighten the screw on the projecter that has a rubber washer. They still shine lower than the main headlights and when a car goes passed you can see the cut off half way up there door, ive not recieved a single flash. Its only a 35w 6500k kit so not as bright as the 55w kits? I didnt realise people would get so up on this. Its not as bad as it may seem trust me.

Yes, my Subaru has factory reflector Xenons, but both the bulb and the reflector housing have been designed for that purpose and I get the clean cut off you normally have with projectors. Normal reflectors and the £20 ebay HID kits don't.

I agree with everything you say Huskoda, but you're wrong about the reflectors giving a bad cut off beam. I have a set of eBay cheapies and the beam pattern is superb, a lot more defined than the original halogens. I'm an MOT tester, so I checked my pattern at work as soon as I fitted them.

Wow soo many cool as fluff guys in this thread

If you fit hid's into halogen headlights you are a pleb.

No they dont look cool and yes they are obviously fakey looking and your kidding nobody but yourself.

And HID man in fog lights that uses them as headlights. I do not even have the words in my vocabulary to explain my thoughts.........

What are you on about? I would say an HID kit is twice as good as halogen, I now run HID s in every car I own.

Maybe I should of kept my modification quiet, its gone unnoticed before saying anything, infact it werent mine to claim I copied what previous people had done.

Play nicely folks..

I had HID's in my old fiesta and they were fairly decent, never got flashed or pulled because of them. I did once get pulled for a different reason at night and the police never even picked up on the HID's so they clearly arent as much of a problem as some people make out!

I will deffo check out the canbus pro kit though.

You have never been flashed because they fear you to flash them back with xenons

I think xenons on fog lamps are a good idea,I examine the octy's fog projectors and they are similar to other car's low beam projectors, they are allmots identical to megane's II for example,so nothing is wrong with that...On the other hand xenons on low beam are stupid,I had them, the octy's low beam reflector is huge, the light is splashed all over the road,I removed them and fitted Philips X-treme power halos, and they are much better, the light is uniform and pleasant on the road,is not that bright like hids but more pleasant
