Group 2/3 Child Seat for VRS

Featured Replies

I need to get a Group 2/3 child seat (15kg+) for my 2010 VRS. I don't have the tether points on the back of the rear seats so ISOFIX seats that need a top tether via those points are a no-go.

I've narrowed down currently to a couple of options:

Maxi-Cosi Rodi Air Protect

Britax Kidfix XP SICT

Does anyone have either of these / do they both fit OK? Any other recommendations?

The Maxi-Cosi is currently my preferred, unfortunately the Maxi-Cosi site's car fitting list is rubbish and doesn't say whether it does fit the VRS or not. The Britax looks like it does.

TIA

No top tehter :) Have the black version. But many color variants :)

The seats we have for our now 4-yr old don't have a top tether, just the normal isofix points

Concorde Transformer T

Britain Kidfix

We've had two Britax Kidfix ones (earlier versions than the one you link to) and been very happy with them.

The second one has a 'shield' on the ISOFIX bars which help protect the sharp ends from damaging your paintwork in the door shuts should you catch it whilst loading the seat into your car.

Neither has a top tether and both have been very secure once in place with the ISOFIX.

Can't see why that wouldn't fit a Vrs with ISOFIX points on the seats.

Going to be selling the newer one soon as it's still in very good condition. Will put a listing in the relevant section once back off holiday.

we've got kidfix - very good seats.

We have the recaro. Uses the seatbelt.

Another shout for the Britax Kidfix here.

MaxiCosi something, ISOFix and sure the Belt can fix it too, but Isofix safer.

I bought a Kidfix XP SICT for the back of our mk2 Octavia and ended up taking it back the next day and buying another Jane Montecarlo R1. The Kidfix XP SICT when fitted to the Octavia, the backrest ends up almost vertical, whereas the Montecarlo R1 has a 2 position angle backrest, so our little ones are more comfy. We now have two Montecarlo R1's and they fit in the Octavia very well.

I got mine from here:http://www.preciouslittleone.com/product-information/39/32801/jane-montecarlo-r1-isofix-car-seat-(klein)/'>http://www.preciouslittleone.com/product-information/39/32801/jane-montecarlo-r1-isofix-car-seat-(klein)/

The seat did very well in the ADAC tests :http://www.adac.de/infotestrat/tests/kindersicherung/kindersitz-test/detail.aspx?KisiID=218&nc=True&info=JAN%c3%89++Montecarlo+R1+(Isofix)'>http://www.adac.de/infotestrat/tests/kindersicherung/kindersitz-test/detail.aspx?KisiID=218&nc=True&info=JAN%c3%89++Montecarlo+R1+(Isofix)

Thanks all so far. Some very useful info in there.

My little one always falls asleep in the car and currently her head nods forwards so an adjustable/reclining seat is pretty important (hence initially favouring the maxi-cosi). However, that isn't also isofix, which was a selling point of the Britax (hence really interested in everyone's input to help make up my mind!). I don't want a seat that is unstable when a child isn't in it / needs seatbelt to be done up when empty really.

So the Jane Montecarlo R1 definitely looks like a good contender I'll have to look more into - so that looks like it can be ISOFIX and/or seatbelt fitted? Which would be useful if transferring to another car without isofix.

With the Britax ones (and probably others) if you take the headrest off you then find the child seat back is reclined a reasonable amount.

You'll also be able to make use of the adjuster located in the seat base to put it more upright if needed.

Our youngest had a head that dropped as well. Once I figured it was down to the seat headrest and not the Britax car seat, then all was good.

That's based upon a Fabia & Octavia.

The Jane one transfers easily from isofix to non isofix cars. The reclining feature is easy to operate when they are small but gets progressively harder, the heavier they get. For my 6 year old it would take two hands to recline it. She prefers it fully back anyway.

MaxiCosi Rodifix.

It is Isofix, reclines and does not need a top tether.

We use cybex solution x2fix. Fits well. Isofix. My daughter like it. Good side protection also. http://cybex-online.com/gb/carseats/solutionx2fix.html

Just what I've been looking for to replace a rear-facing one. Great reviews/tests.

Thanks! Just need to find someone who has it in stock now...

This is the reason we took the Britax one back, as it was so bolt upright that her head would fall forward if asleep, not so with the montecarlo R1. Both seats were fitted without the rear headrests fitted to the car, because as mentioned above, this can effect the angle of the back rest.

The R1 can be fitted with or without isofix, and it doesn't rattle when no-one is sat in it. The previous seat, a britax safefix plus, used to rattle a lot.

If you are near Lincoln, you are welcome to come and look at the seats fitted & try in your own octavia.

I've gone ahead and ordered the Jane Montecarlo R1 - it ticks all the boxes I was looking for plus more. I honestly would never have stumbled across it had it not been for Metblackrat and Bogwoppit, especially as the main retailers I was naturally gravitating to (Kiddicare, Mothercare) either don't stock it any more, or are out of stock - so thanks!

In case it's useful for others, I found Samuel Johnston had them (plus 4% cashback available via Quidco), with free delivery.
