The recirculate button...

Featured Replies

I experimented with the AC on my Ocatavia, driving across France. there seemed to be no difference in fuel consumption with AC on or off. Maybe VW have optimised their systems to work with AC on?

I seem to recall that the Fabia, when I had mine (a 10 reg), was reputed to run the AC compressor all the time. I certainly don't recall noticing much difference in "go" or fuel economy between AC on and AC not on.

Yes, the Fabia has an "air con off" button only confusingly called Econ!

I can assure you that it does work, and others here will confirm that.

It works.  Mine is always on A and it stays that way between switching car on and off. Camped on a farm last year and you had to drive through the farm yard every day to get to the campsite. Never smelt a thing. Then one day I drove through with my window open...  yikes. It really smelt of cow pee...  So yes the Auto function worked a treat.  I suspect large diesel particulates are perhaps a bit more of a struggle for it to "smell" automatically.

That's a VW/Audi hang over.  They had this setup on all their climate control units with the ECON button for turning the a/c off for years.  Skoda inherited it.

Did you know....... pre-F/L Yetis (and this may still be the case on post F/L ones) automatically select recirculating mode on climate control when you engage reverse, whether the A button is selected or not.....  apparently to stop your car's own exhaust fumes being drawn into the car as you reverse. There's a momentary delay before it re-selects "fresh" air when you start driving forwards again. Strange but true!

Diesel owners might not notice the change in noise from the heater fan, but the different sound is quite noticeable in petrol engined cars. :-)

Hi John,

Rest assured one can hear it in a diesel too!

And also for a few seconds after using the screenwash/headlightwash :-)
