B&M shortshifter fitted

Featured Replies

Fitted a B&M short shifter today after searching for a few years with nothing listed at all for a Fabia

Opening the box it has precise instructions, not all are relevant to the Fabia as they are for a Golf

First impressions it's a quality looking item that is very well machined

Lined up against the original shifter

The first noticeable difference is that you have to lift the shifter to get it into reverse instead of pushing down on it.

Test drive has to wait til tomorrow as I've re bonded some parts of the grille so waiting for the tiger seal to dry

Do you have to use their gear knob? Looks short! Which could be annoying as I have arm rest fitted.

Get a bit more thread welded on?

So far as I can tell yes. It screws on

Would kind of defeat the object of the short shifter :D

Yeah I realised saying that afterwards

Looks smart though!

Do you think it would be the same if the standard shifter was cut down as done previously on here? :)

  • Author

Quite possibly. I'll have a good play tomorrow and update :)

B&M usaully alter the shift point on the lever to make it a quick shift rather than just making them shorter.

It might be short cause its for a golf?

  • Author

Possibly. Should improve shift throws though :)

A bit off topic but what steering wheel is that ? And do you have a full pic of it ? Cheers.

This looks really good where did you source it? Look forward to the review :)

It's a custom re-trimmed R32 wheel, it's very smart!!

Jabba sport I think mate. Equally looking forward to the review! :)

So is this designed to alter the shift point making the gear change shorter or just shortening the height of the lever? I'll look forward to the review

Driven it yet?

Nope, just come home for lunch. Won't drive it until 6 ish this evening

Lol

No way, I sold my b&m off my octavia vRS for peanuts. Wish ide held on to it now as it was an awesome bit of kit. Changes were so solid. Felt more like my M5 does.

It really does give you confidence. Unlike the wollowy flappy std setup.

Have you got a link for the short shifter

This is my B&M short shifter. Had it for nearly 6 years now.

Gives a more precise and crisper gear change.

I've tried to find a cheap eBay copy cat there's a few listed for Octavia's etc for about £30!

But they are all lift up reverse

However! The ones I've seen on eBay are for the cars mentioned in the one from Jabbasport apart from there's no mention of Fabia on eBay.

Charlie is the B&M one now lift up reverse?
