I have a 1998 Felicia 1.3 MPi. 65,000 miles. It has a quite loud clunking / knocking noise from the front passenger side. It occurs when that side of the car goes over a bump or pot hole, when going round a tight right corner (eg turning right on a small roundabout) and when taking up drive (1st to 2nd gear change in particular). It sounds like its coming from the front suspension but I have jacked it up and had a good look and nothing appears to be loose. Could this be a shock absorber issue ? Could it be a worn engine mount ?

I have re-fettled the car myself (bought 6 months ago and required some TLC) and aside from this issue is now sorted. Therefore any help in tracing this would be most appreciated.

CV joint maybe? Whats the boot like?

Check the spring isnt broken and there is no play in the bottom balljoint.

Will check out the areas you raised - could well be the botton ball joint. I think the spring is fine but will double check.

Check the gearbox pendulum mount, it is underneath on the passenger side.

I have finally had time today to check out the four suggestions above. There is some noticeable play in the bottom ball joint. Not a huge amount but possibly enough for a clunking noise ?

CV joint, spring & gearbox mount all appear to be fine so must be the bottom ball joint.

Next question What parts do I need to fix this (just the ball joint ?) and where is the best place to source these ?
