'Octavia 1.6 TDI CR 105cv' vs. '110cv GL'

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I'm doubting between the 'Octavia 1.6 TDI CR Ambition 105ps' or '110ps Greenline version '.

I really do not know if those 5ps extra power are noticedat all, but my biggest question is whether the version "Greenline" lose strength and acceleration capacity compared with normal 105ps version.

Not sure, but I think part of what consumption savings are achieved by changing the parameters of the ECU, so even pushing hard the throttle pedal, keep going slow.

So ... if we leave aside for a moment the issue of fuel; what do you think about both versions with respect to the strength and capacity of acceleration / fast reaction? Did you try them? I read a driving test of the GL and the guy was saying that as much as squeezing the throttle stop, the car not suddenly accelerated, ... but at its own pace.

Thank you by your sharings!

There will be next to no performance difference, the GL does benefit from a 6 speed box however so probably a bit better geared foe getting up to speed and then cruising at v low RPM in 6th (probably how theyve increased the fuel economy claims).

In the UK at least the GL is SE spec plus a couple of extras too so guess those looking at a 1.6 TDi SE (Ambition) wouldnt go far wrong with the GL

In Holland the Greenline has 14% tax and the old 1.6(105ps) has 20%

So the Greenline is very attractive to lease. But. It is only 14% in 2014. From January first you will pay 20%

I am currently considering both cars. But because of a 5 month delivery time the Greenline will probably be to late to profit from the 14% tax rate.

I think I would therefore go for the older engine. I can choose nicer and more options on that model. The only thing I am worried about is the 5 speed gearbox. So I have planned a test drive tomorrow. If that goes well I will go for an 105 ps version in top spec (elegance business line in Holland )

At 80mph I'm sitting around 2375-2400 rpm which sounds pretty high but it's quite quiet and relaxed really. If you plan on cruising at a higher speed I'd definitely go for the greenline with 6speed.

On the plus side, the little 105 accelerates well from 60/70 in 5th without changing down a gear.

Hi Guys,

Difficult to choose, I was not aware that the 110ps-GL has a longer time delivery. 5 Months?   Thanks by your sharings, it seems most of the people takes the 105ps, maybe due that?

Let's see if anybody in the forum has the 110ps-GL and share with us his/her experience?  :notme:

@1600cr great to know. My 1.2 with dsg does about the same. So I would be happy if the 1.6 in this case. Was worried it would be over 3000rpm

@torakaru. 5months is what we are facing in Holland. Not sure that's the case in the UK. You should check it with your dealer

Not quite the same but my Superb Greenline FL with 6 speed box revs at 1800rpm at 70mph so makes for a relaxing drive on the motorway.

I've got a GL on order and chose it for the low emissions and low fuel consumption. No car is really green but it's a conscience issue for me. Before I ordered though I'm sure I read something that said the 110PS 6 speed in the GL is from the newer incarnation of VAG diesel engines and is supposed to be more refined to drive. Sadly still waiting so I can't say for definite. I test drove a standard 105PS and thought that was decent enough, mind.

On the wait question, I've been given and indicative build week that would put delivery time around 3 months, not 5 (though I'll believe it when it happens!).

Are they? Thought it was quite different. Thought the old 105ps was also heavier.

I just finished a test drive with the 105ps 5-speed manual version. And I was suprised. As mentioned cruising on the highway keeps the revs at a respectable level. And it responds better than the Greenline. Especially in second gear. The only problem is that both engines aren't as refined as PSA's diesel in the new 308.

But think I will opt for a canton sound system

Yep the same engine with a different ECU and new gearbox. Both engines are the new breed from vw and can't be compared with the old 1.6, all mqb tsi and TDI engines are brand new redesigned engines.
