Skoda Octavia Sport Owners Thread

Featured Replies

I had an accident a few years ago in it and my insurance sent it to their approved repair agents who ordered the parts based on the registration, my v5 states it's a SKODA OCTAVIA AMBIENTE which is what the sport was based on. However the standard Ambiente comes with a completely different front bumper to the sport bumper and this caused no end of trouble for them. They tried a VRS bumper, but the fog lights were then the wrong shape, they said that I'd have to make do with the standard Ambiente bumper, I said no.

They eventually managed to source one, at huge expense, and repaired the car. The airbag was the next hurdle and the airbag they ordered was for a 4 spoke wheel. This added another 2 week delay to me picking the car up.

All in all a minor front end shunt ended up taking 4 months to repair, however I had a Hire Car for this time so I wasn't too upset. (Passat TDI blue motion)

My insurance company kicked up a right stink and tried to claim that I'd given them the wrong vehicle details despite the fact I gave them my registration and it wasn't my fault that the V5 states it's an Ambiente. I contacted Skoda and they confirmed it was I fact always a sport and it was manufactured as such and that If I went to my local dealership they would inspect the car and issue me with a letter to send to the dvla to get the v5 amended. I haven't done that yet.

My insurance did pay in the end

So bascially you have been unfortuante to experience all of the headaches that I envisaged could happen with these cars that are registered incorrectly. I dont know why VAG do this?

I know mine is not the only one as I have looked up Reference Sport models on Autotrader and then used their registration numbers and done some searches and about 50% of them are only registered as Reference models.

As I have anticipated hassles like you have had, is why I always make a point of telling the ins company that it is Ref Sport.

That sounds like a right **** on.

I had someone rear end me a couple of years ago at a roundabout, I got a call from repair company saying they couldn't fix my rear bumper and that they could only fit a standard one because I hadn't told my insurance company that I had a body kit fitted.

I pointed out to them that it was a sport, and that the bumpers were standard. I showed them links to online reviews of the sport etc, they then had no issues replacing the bumper like for like

I have the three Spoke wheel also.

How many of you guys have DSG?

Thought I would double check my V5,

Had a little moment when I Read Ambiente and Estate, then relised it was my wife's V5! Reg Nos almost the same!

Anyway mine says Sport as I thought it did.

Hi all. Just signing up here a year after buying my Octavia. I have what is in log book as Octavia Sport 2.0TDI 140Bhp, It's anthracite grey with step plates but no sport badges or sun roof. It also appears to be based on the Ambiente but with 4 spoke leather steering wheel, 17" factory alloys with sport bumpers front and rear. Had difficulty insuring as these seem to be rare in Ireland as never sold her (imported)

Reluctantly i am selling soon due to my 3rd child on the way but but have had an issue lights that seem to be a result of bad work on the previous owners behalf. He had after fit xenons he fitted himself, This led to an issue whereas I would switch on full beams but they would cut after approx 7/8 seconds, I have reverted back to standard bulbs but still have this issue and do not want to sell with this fault as it was sold to me unbeknownst.

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate some advice as I am having no luck resolving it.

Paddy

First of all welcome to another sport owne, if if it is just briefly until you sell it lol.

I don't know why you would need to get rid of the sport for a 3rd child though, as I have 3 and have had my sport since the month after my youngest was born and have had no problems at all managing the 3 kids plus me and other half all over the country.

The problem you have with the lights sounds like a canbus issue, but I can't understand why the problem persists when you say you have gone back to putting the standard oem bulbs in.

I have had canbus friendly HIDs in mine since pretty much day one and never had any issues at all.

I would suggest you get someone local to scan it with VCDS, as this should flag up any problems and give you an idea as to what is going on.

Has anyone colour coded their side strips on their Sport?

I've just bought 4 x door mouldings already in black magic, I will put a few pics up once they turn up and I fit them

I bought 4 door rubbing strips already primered from eBay and I think I paid £77 ish. I had them sprayed when I had some bumper damage fixed last year.

I can't post pics to show you for some reason, I used to be able to though??????

I got these for £20, so was quite pleased at that price.

Hopefully they will be here today.

Try putting pictures in photobucket and then put them on here, I can't use the uploaded on the site for some reason so that's what I do.

Did they go on ok? How do you remove the old ones?

Not had chance to fit them yet mate, it's been lashing down with rain and I was working all weekend.

It's looking like a better day today, so will hopefully get finished work with enough time to do them tonight.

They are currently just sat on the garage floor

I know what you mean, my wife's 307SW has peeling paint on the roof bars and I've been wanting to reprint them for a few days now but this poxy weather has stopped me.

I'm loving the strips, at least you won't have to paint them but I'm going to have to. I found these on eBay for 36.00

Just wondering how they fix on? Adhesive?

Going back to an earlier point about Cruise Control, has anyone retrofitted? I've been told that I might need a new steering wheel controller, has anyone got any experience of this? Is fitting it simple?

That's something I'm hoping to do this week as well.

I need a new indicator stalk anyway (keeps flashing left when I indicate right), so was going to garage today to talk to them about retro fitting cruise at the same time

Just had a look on ETKA, the SPORT badges are not listed for any age of Octavia.

Mike

That will be why skoda dealer looked at me like I had 2 heads when I asked about a replacement one then

Hi guys. I've been reading this thread on/off for a while and finally decided to jump in. I live in N Ireland and own a 2007 Octavia Sport 2.0tdi in Corrida red.

My spec is ok. Rear windows professionally tinted, 3 spoke steering wheel, 4 electric windows, leather covered jumbo box, regular air-con and it is a sport according to the V5. No SPORT badges on rear doors thankfully but each to their own. Currently running gunmetal pegaus alloys and colour coded door strips as I couldn't look at the black ones any longer than I did.

Anyhow, currently running H&R springs and thinking of a Bilstein B12 kit. Having owned the car for 4 years I am still happy. It has plenty of room and plenty of poke when I need it and I think the red looks good. I am the second owner from new. I must dig out some pics when I get the chance.

Martin.

Hi Martin, I have an identical model to yours, I've considered lowering but given the fact baby number 3 is here I'm going to have to wait until I have the money and time to sort it! Welcome to the club anyway pal

Well in attempting to park my Sport I've scraped the front bumper and wing, nothing major but both requiring work. Anyone know if a smart repair would sort it out? badce09bc44ccb5e2980cc3b4164afed.jpg
