Skoda Octavia Sport Owners Thread

Featured Replies

We are of a dying breed but i thought I'd start a post exclusively for those of us who own Skoda Octavia Sport models. For those of you who are not familiar with the model it was launched pre vRS and came in two engine types, the 2.0 TDI 140 and the 2.0 FSI 150. They all tend to be Ambiente base models with the extras added too them. Very few are actually referred to as 'sport' on the V5 though.

I will start with my 2006 56 Sport, Corrida Red. 2.0 TDi 140 Manual.

Mine is down as a sport on the log book, and has the original sport kick plates, and sport badges on the rear doors

2006 (56) black magic, 2.0TDi 140 manual

Mines an 06 2.0 TDI Manual in black magic. Original Sport kick plates and badges on rear doors and electric sunroof.

I'm here Mike.

I've got a Silver 2005 55 plate registered in March 2006, it's a 2.0 tdi PD 140 and has Sport kick plates but no badges on the rear doors?!

Although mike as you know my air con is dead :(

Same here, it's a killer in this heat!

You should try spending 14hrs a day in it, and having a black one

But after just spending £500 yesterday on a gearbox rebuild the air con will have to wait

Sorry, had to do this -- just took a photo a few minutes ago, air con on full belt towards screen, 22 degrees outside, and freezing up on the screen inside! £280 very well spent!

My air con is shot and in need of some TLC, can I ask what you had changed altogether and where?

I had mine cleaned and re-gased last year sometime but it has made no difference whatsoever. I bought an offer on Groupon but feel that they just wasted my time, I should have complained but to be honest the weather didn't require air con at the time so I let I go too long before testing it properly. I should have noticed the difference instantly but nothing!

When I use the Econ button i.e. light ON the temp is as outside but turning the light off there is a slight drop in temp and just enough to keep this heat at bay with the blowers on full and windows up. Is that the condenser or compressor at fault and who should I see about it with out getting my wallet emptied?

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/321944-£280-poorer-but-my-air-con-works-now/

if there is any change in temperature when switching the ECON button off, then this should rule out the compressor. It sounds like low gas pressure in the system to me, could be a leaking condenser, or pressure switch, or simply that it needs a good service with a decent length of time vaccuuming the system out before refilling it with the correct weight of gas.

Find someone local to you (adamal is in South Wales) and get the HVAC module scanned for faults, and have a look at the measuring blocks to record gas pressure and output temperatures. This will also shpow up any potential faults in the compressor not working.

Mike

Ye it does chill slightly when Econ is ON i.e. no light. They took much longer than expected cleaning the system and re-gasing so I'm thinking maybe the sensor or condenser, I'll have to do some research on trusted local 'air con' specialists.

Mike gave me some useful advice and I went to see an independent AC specialist (do not use Halfords Autocentre/ATS etc) and although he couldn't say 100% he was 99.9% sure it was the condenser.

Has anyone colour coded their side strips on their Sport?

I've thought about doing it lots of times, but I think with mine being black they are not as noticeable.

If I had a red or silver one, I think it would have been my first modification

I'm with you on that one, JohnSTV6. Colour code ours wouldn't stand out as much.

Mine is red and it just looks like it should be colour coded! Can you still buy them? tydenyhy.jpg

Who's Sport badges are losing their Chrome? Has anyone found a supplier?

2.0TDI DSG.

With lots of extras, 4 lecy windows, Jumbo Box, Duel Zone Climate Control, TPMS, Auto Dipping rear view mirror. Auto lights and wipers, Curtain Airbags. Sport Badges on Doors and Sport Kick plates. Now on 56,000m, running 164bhp varified on two separate Rolling Road Days, No it's not been mapped.

Was it a sport to start with?

Yes it was, was my Local Dealers Demo, hence all the options.

No Mike only got air con and electric sunroof.

It's interesting to see all the varying options of what was supposed to be a limited edition.

I also see that some Sports have the pre vRS 3 spoke steering wheel (which I have) but some have the standard 4 spoke leather steering wheel.

I've got the three spoke wheel too.

Do you get any issues when insuring it? I also have a Seat Altea Reference Sport 1.9 TDi, which is based on the Reference model, and is detailed as such on the V5 and hence always comes up as this on insurance databases. This is always a pain as car is totally different from a standard Reference in that it has the front bumper/grill/fog lights, seats, steering wheel, gear knob, alloys and lowered suspension of the 2.0 TDI Sport model and they are visually identical apart from colour coded door mirrors. but if I didn't explain this to the insurance company it would just get insured as a Reference model, and I wonder where I would stand if I had to claim and they realised it has all the Sport accoutrements fitted to it?

I am assuming this is the same for the Octavia Sport guys? If your car is down as an Ambiente on the logbook what would happen if  you insured it as such and then had to claim, and the insurance company assumed the car had wheel trims etc?

Yeah one of mine has started to loose the chrome, I've asked at skoda for replacements but the guy just looked at me like I had two heads.

I've never seen a set go for sale on here or eBay either

Yeah you could just order some smooth Vrs ones, then have them sprayed your colour and replace the originals.

I've got the three spoke wheel too.

So have I, but at 180,000 and nearly 4yrs as a taxi it's starting to get a bit smooth

I had an accident a few years ago in it and my insurance sent it to their approved repair agents who ordered the parts based on the registration, my v5 states it's a SKODA OCTAVIA AMBIENTE which is what the sport was based on. However the standard Ambiente comes with a completely different front bumper to the sport bumper and this caused no end of trouble for them. They tried a VRS bumper, but the fog lights were then the wrong shape, they said that I'd have to make do with the standard Ambiente bumper, I said no.

They eventually managed to source one, at huge expense, and repaired the car. The airbag was the next hurdle and the airbag they ordered was for a 4 spoke wheel. This added another 2 week delay to me picking the car up.

All in all a minor front end shunt ended up taking 4 months to repair, however I had a Hire Car for this time so I wasn't too upset. (Passat TDI blue motion)

My insurance company kicked up a right stink and tried to claim that I'd given them the wrong vehicle details despite the fact I gave them my registration and it wasn't my fault that the V5 states it's an Ambiente. I contacted Skoda and they confirmed it was I fact always a sport and it was manufactured as such and that If I went to my local dealership they would inspect the car and issue me with a letter to send to the dvla to get the v5 amended. I haven't done that yet.

My insurance did pay in the end
