Voided Warrenty

Featured Replies

Basicaly i want 2 fit a K&N aif filter 2 my fab, its a 1.4 16v sports.

in order to do this i hav 2 remove my engine cover.

the question is

by removing this does this void my warrenty????

in a word... yes (changing filter)

But if you speak to your dealer first they may give it the thumbs up and ok it as long as you tell them.

Or just make sure its replaced with old one when car goes in for anywork

No it wont void the warranty. The cover just pulls off. However, I would check with your dealer first

I still can't believe they said this?! So removing my engine cover will adversely affect all engine components?

I agree changing actual components will affect it, but just removing a bit of plastic sitting over it isn't! Maybe some people can tell I'm not a fan of warranty! Long live DIY!

Not an expert but I am sure somebody is who will reply, however I would imagine that by removing the cover warrenty wouln't be voided - however if after fitting the air filter there was an engine problem such as burnt inlet valves etc. then warrenty on these engine parts would be voided as their failure could be attributed to the altered air mixture caused by the none OE fitted filter

see every 1 has different views, coz i do no wat u mean devonutopia coz all im doin is takin the cold air feed and atching a filter, easy dun, and easy 2 change bk. but i think i beter go ask my dealer.

are there any skoda reps or dealers on this???

As said above, the act of removing the engine cover will not invalidate your warranty (well it might invalidate the warranty on the engine cover if you make a real mess of it ;)), but replacing standard Skoda OEM parts for non Skoda parts will, eg if a replacement air filter led to the failure of the MAF (mass air flow sensor), which is not uncommon..........

are there any skoda reps or dealers on this???

I think they're very unlikely to comment on this as Skoda's policy strictly says any modifications to the car will result in the warranty being void........!

LOL thanks i get wat u all sayin. i think ima do my research an ask my dealer

I very much doubt that is correct, with the rules regarding servicing, any garage should be able to service your can as long a they use skoda parts, so my point is how could skoda prove that it wasn't another dealer that removed it?

The changing of an air filter to a non skoda one would void your warrenty, but I guess if your clever and crafty you could change it back and they would probably never know. But dont forget if you change the filter of a K&N or alike to inform your insurance.

Lastly not wanting to sound like the grumpy old man that I am, but I alway like to say this if you cant pay for it then dont play with it! :D

Panel filters don't usually void the warranty and are usually recommended by dealers.

Asking never harmed anyone

Genuine VAG parts are OK. Aftermarket bits are usually NOT. For example: Fitting a K&N cone filter would not be acceptable (They need asking first)but as Mil says just replacing the panel filter is OK.

What does Lummox say on this?

Why is replacing the panel filter ok? You're replacing a genuine (recommended!) Skoda part for an aftermarket one. Why should they pay for any failures arising from that? Certainly no dealer I've ever spoken to would recommend that!!!

Chris

My son had a K&N filter on his previous Fabia 1.4 16v when a Skoda mechanic fitted his diagnostics - one of the settings/adjustments was not possible he said the ecu could not compensate enough - probably too much air was being drawn in. BTW it made lots of induction noise but little else in my opinion - however my son thought it was great coupled with a noisy performance exaust - [\old foggey mode off] ;)

Fabsport - could I make a plea for you to drop the "txtspk" please - if in doubt, see the forum guidelines. Thanks.

By the looks of things, it seems that I have a VERY friendly dealer! Not only that I've changed the air filter, but I also replaced the exhaust system, replaced the front speakers (which is obvious as the tweeter is visible from 20m :)), changed the illumination color to blue and pulled a 35mm^2 cable from the battery to the boot + speaker cables...and guess what my dealer said... NOTHING! :D

Makes you wanna service the car more often ;)

Oh, about that panel filter - change it! Before taking the car to the service, replace it with the original filter - they will replace it with a new one :)

And charge you for the labour and the part ;) Best to tell them up front not to bother with the air filter as you've changed it yourself and save yourself some money

Chris

Yeah, and then they'll make things on their own and replace the filter anyway :D

Thks. :rofl::rofl:

Just a liitle funny about hinding things from dealer.picked up vrs new last thusday and took it to revo same day,on the way back I called at the garage because I left some keys on the desk,my wife ran in and when she came out she told me how nice the dealership owner was as she had been talkinf to him and telling him how i loved the car and she told him I had just had it revo`d  600 quid for undetectable software and the wife opens her mouth

Have to agree on the sentiments above. Took my old saxo which had a K&N panel filter in it for a service, naturally assuming they would read the sticker and not change it. They replaced it with a new OEM part and charged me for it when i came to pick it up.

Moral: always let them know what you've done to it!

You're in for an interesting chat next time you pop in, then!

My warranty manual at work (non Skoda dealer) states that non genuine service parts can be used, but if a claim arises which could have been influenced by the use of these parts then it is upto the owner to PROVE that they are of equivalent quality to the genuine parts.

Talking to the warranty manager at the importers he told me how he had refused a second engine claim on a car as it had been recognised from pictures of it racing in the local paper.

Of course if you are the presenter of a cosumer programme on the the telly the importers will already have your registration number and you will never have a claim refused.
