Back pain-best car

Featured Replies

I had found a beautiful sweet spot but can I find it again...???

Once you've got the sweet spot, doesn't it just take a bit of inspection (and, if necessary, writing down) to get the key points right. eg I know I'm happiest with the seat fully back and then two clicks forward. And the seat height is 10 clicks up from fully down. Steering wheel isn't as precise, but you should be able to note where it is on the spectrum of fully in to fully out and then set the rim height against some reference mark on the instruments, eg just see the top of the speedo. The only ones that are more tricky are backrest angle and lumbar support, but again I'm usually happiest with the latter at maximum.

Hindsight is a wonderful tool... :notme:

Normally my seat just gets slid straight backwards but (I guess) because this guy was so tall he fiddled with everything.  It's just about right but after a few minutes of driving I think that something's not right and have a little fiddle.  Feels OK until I get out and get back in again and then feels wrong again.  Maybe I just need to leave it alone...   :p

When my 2 sons were driving my car, I started marking the position of the seat by placing a small strip of white tape on the seat base and a matching strip on the seat sub frame, a small bit of tape at the top of the backrest adjustment knob, and count number of pumps from seat fully down to position I had it at. So after they had moved the seat it was reasonably easy to get seat back to my preferred position.

Two separate factors come into this;

1. Ease of entry and egress.

2. Comfort once established in the seat.

For stop-start in-and-out local runs No. 1 takes priority, perhaps at the expense of No.2.

For transcontinental driving No.2 takes precedence, perhaps at the expense of No.1

Ya taks yer pick depending on ones priorities.

It is nigh impossible to make a supportive seat that is easily slid in and out of, the two design requirements are almost entirely contradictory.

I do prefer a more upright seating position BUT with side support.

cheers
