Monte suspension.

Featured Replies

How does the Monte suspension compare to an Elegance ?

My wife has 1.6tdi 105 Elegance and I'm looking at a Monte 1.6tdi 105.

I find my wife's quite wallowy.

Never driven one yet.

Any thoughts ?

We went from an Elegance TSI to a Monte TSI at the end of 2012, suspension is noticeably firmer but it handles better with less roll in bends. Oh also prefer the seats, much more supportive.

Would suggest you try one, as they are not to everyone's taste for overall ride comfort but we are more than happy with ours, although I believe the TSI is better than the TDI.

Agree with above, it's just firm, if you have decent road surfaces you'll find it absolutely fine, if they are bad like they are in my area it can be a little harsh, especially if you hit a pot hole.

Definitely recommend trying one in your local area to make your own judgement, good luck :-)

Monte its a bit sportier, and also is lower for 15mm. I agree whit Plubmer, not every one likes this sport suspension but for me its really great also the seats are diffrent i suggest you go on a test drive.

REALLY, the TSI is better than the TDI?

I beg to differ. I am currently getting a confirmed, checked via tank to tank, mpg of 67. Even allowing for the slightly higher diesel fuel cost this represents a significant saving.

This is before discussing the driving characteristics. Ie that the test I had in a TSI 105bhp felt weedy compared to the TDI 105bhp( with about 50% more torque)

Each to their own I suppose.

Just depends on your needs and uses as to whats 'better for you'

I dont think theres an overall better engine. Thats why the engine lineup runs the tdi along side the tsi.

Skoda TSI against a VW TDI; no contest :giggle:

However it is my personal experience from driving many a Skoda, that the petrols generally ride better than the heavier diesels, particularly over poor road surfaces but that is IMHO obviously.

Signed on the dotted for a white Monte TDI today. Suspension was spot on. Heavy steering like. Trading my new shape A3 for it - saving a packet long term.

PS: much prefer the TDI. Delivery less than 24hrs !

Enjoy the new car

Done similar to me, as I've gone from an Octy III to a Spaceback but for reasonas of comfort; coulden't get on with the hard edged seat side bolsters and offset to the right foot pedals.

My other half had the 105 TDI Monte for 18 months but in the end couldn't put up with the harsh suspension.

Couldn't agree more with what others have said though ie on a good road the Monte is brilliant but you wouldn't want to take the Monte down some of our local back roads!

Three weeks ago she swapped it for the 105 TDI Elegance and she is as happy as Larry.

Yep...Larry is quite happy with his too! Good move jossy...

1 week on and the suspension is fine. I can't seem to get comfortable in the seats though. Very firm with hard bolsters.

Should av bought a Yeti.

No seriously JossyB we had the Monte 1.6D and yes it was a firm ride, but loved the seats, kept us in just right.

I would think if you are a bit on the bigger size then the bolsters could well be intrusive!!!

After having the Monte for just over a year we have had enough of the steering pull, so decided to jump Skodas.

Now have the Yeti greenline with the same engine 1.6D.

Lovely & comfortable, different car to the Monte. Monte was a drivers car & felt the need to drive as such. Still got 58mpg.

Yeti so far 62-66 on a run, & 55 dogging around.

Very nice.

If 'What Car' were doing a Comparison on the best Dogging car i would think the Fabia Estate would beat the Yeti hands down.

Better hight for across the Bonnet and in the rear of the estate.

If it was to be a Yeti the only advantage might be the 4x4 for getting into the Dogging sites in adverse weather.

Sounds like youve tried and tested!

Then you went ahead n bought the hatch? Haha.

Very true, but then you only need to know someone with one available, you dont actually need to drive them yourself.

Just dont leave any marks or stains!

Well. I guess the idea is to see if the car suits your wants and needs!
