Felicia 1.9d clutch or gearbox fail?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was driving back from Plymouth last week, through about 5 hours worth of road works when the clutch started to go. Although I'm just assuming it's the clutch. It just felt odd, almost like it was stepped. Anyhow, it limped home, but the next day went completely about half a mile from home. I can move the gear stick around, but the engine does not engage at all . At the moment, the car is parked in front of the house and would need towing to a garage to check it. There is also a small leak from the gearbox, which probably hasn't helped.

I'm guessing that it would be better to just go straight to the scrapman  , which would be a pain as it was only MOT'd next month.

Any advice would be gratefully received!

Thanks.

When you say "stepped" is it like you come up against a resistance roughly half way through the pedal travel that then pops through?

That's what mine did shortly before the clutch packed up. I've also got a slight gearbox leak but that doesn't seem to have been a problem. The clutch has been replaced and touch wood she's motoring along reasonably happily again 10 months on.

Thanks, yes, that's exactly what it was like. The car managed to do another 150 miles like that, but it was mostly motorway. I suppose I have to decide whether it;s worth the cost of the repair. I think it's the original one, so can't really complain after 118,000 or so miles..

Thanks for the reply  :-)

Think mine was too with around 130,000 on it. For me it was cheaper to have it fixed than to get another car - that's how I looked at it.
