USA sidelights

Featured Replies

Has anyone done a step by step guide anywhere to do the USA stile side lights? By that I mean having your indicator lights perminently on with side lights. Wires confuse me too much! Thanks in advance guys

Sounds illegal?

WHY !!!!!! :x

IBTL! Haha :D

I've enabled it through VCDS on my Touran, and even then it's not 100% as i'd want it.

Essentially I have 3 stages of lighting

1. Ignition on = sidelights, dipped headlights & indicators at 30% illumination. Dash not illuminated.

2. Ignition on and sidelights turned on at switch = sidelights & indicators at 30% illumination. Dash illuminated.

3 Ignition on and dipped headlights turned on = as no.1with dash illuminated.

AFAIK it's not able to be coded through VCDS for the 6Y fabia. I have seen them on show cars but linked to a switch i believe.

As said above, it's not something that could be switched on, like it can on golfs etc.

You'd have to wire something up to run the indicators as well as the sides. It has been done, it's just finding the right people to help with some guidance.

This is the UK.

Sounds gash tbh.

having your side repeaters on with sidelights isnt "US spec" sidelights,

us spec sidelights are totally separate lights

Would dull my bright blue hids init!

The OP is not talking about side repeaters. He is referring to having front facing indicators illuminated as running lights like so

Like that

I guess it depends if you want them on permantely with ignition or just when your side lights are on? If you want it from ignition then i found this on another thread:

"After attempting to get some relay's from Maplins and failed because people who works there has NO experience on electronics what so ever I found a relay in the engine bay! Location - Next to the battery, RHS.

It apparently connects to the glow plugs to switch them on on ignition . So I took the wire no 56? (Blue black wire) and linked my LED's with that.

A little weary with this set up as those relay's are a bit special and cost £50, also I have no idea where this blue black wire goes to..."

So if you were to use the above set up they would come on with ignition. I have no clue how you would get them to work with your indicators though.

My other thought would be to remove your sidelight bulb and possibly drill the back of the light unit behind the indicator and install the side light inside the indicator or take the wires from your sidelight attach them to the indicator bulb, again no idea if it would make all your indicators come on or if the front ones would work anymore

Just buy the module from German eBay it's about £10

Ask yourself one thing if you decide to fit this. How would you feel if your driving along a main road and drivers start pulling out of side roads into the path of your car and why are they doing it. The reason is because they take a look to the right and glimpse your indicator light, assume you are turning off so pull out.

Not a problem in the US because its normal for the amber lights to be showing forward, but in the UK its not the norm and technically illegal because its easy to mistake them as an intention to turn.

They may not be flashing, but you would not necessarily notice with a quick look.

That ^^^

This is a quote from another forum, from a quick google. There are lots of similar posts, this is one of many along the same line.

i then had them on for a couple of months never got pulled over for them but did get a couple of strange looks from the police

and i also noticed random people pulling out of turnings while i was driving down a main road would glance once then pull out on me thinking i was indicating in as they see a little bit of orange so i re-done mine back to standard

Its stupid and dangerous, don't do it.

Even that ebay link says in broken english it won't pass an MOT, for good reason.

I had them in my JDM headlights on my Primera for over a year and half and nobody ever pulled out onto me, this picture was the day I fitted them, (normal sidelight bulbs), I replaced them with orange bulbs a few days after this photo....

Just makes it look like your car is broken, unless you are in the US, don't do it, probably voids your insurance too!
