Oil change on a MK2 PD Vrs Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

My car is due an oil change in about 1000 miles, question is how easy is it to do compared to a mk1 TDI Octavia?

And do i need any special tools?

watched a mechanic do mine a while back, I provided the oil and filter (from eurocarparts) and they did it for me.. cost me £25 quid to have them change it and figured it was easier as they get it up on a ramp and remove the bottom cover etc etc..

On the whole though its no different to any other car really.. the filter is housed in a black cylinder at the front right of the engine, not difficult to get to and not far from the ASV/EGR.

Pretty much exactly the same as doing it on a mk1 Octavia TDi, sump plug and oil filter housing should same / v.similar

As you have a DPF you must make sure the oil you use meets at least VW 507.0 standard as it is a low ash content oil and must be used regardless of service regime.

very easy job, may need torx screw driver for undertray but nothing specialist otherwise

Oil filter housing cap is a bit fiddly to get out (not very well thought out design at the front of the engine bay) but as long as you're not a complete novice it's nothing too daunting.

If the under tray hasn't come off in a while due to suction-type oil changes, be prepared to mash up the screws holding the tray on, and have some spares handy.

OK thanks guys. I have done numerous changes on ASV, ALH and ASZ engines. forgot about the undertray screws. I ended up with philips screws on my old one. I will get the low ash oil.

Talking of suction oil changes, I recently made a multipurpose sucker from an old windscreen washer pump and some clear pipe from Halfords, same spec as the stuff next door in a pet store but cheaper... surprisingly.

I'm looking forward to a comparatively easy 5 minute oil change next time, up one pipe, out the other, straight into an old oil container ready for the recycling centre, no mess no hass.

The filter can be changed whilst it's being sucked out further saving time.

Although the perfectionist in me will probably want to run the car over a couple of bricks to slacken/tighten/copper grease the under tray screws at some point.
