Same problem, different day

Please help!

So, my '07 PD170 vRS still suffers from the age old stuttering/hesitancy problem, despite trying various fixes. Ruddy marvellous.

Recently I serviced my car and was surprised to find a very black & oily fuel filter element, in dire need of replacement.

Questions:

  • Is the cause of the oil in the fuel due a faulty tandem pump?
  • I am now wondering if the stuttering/hesitancy is due to the dodgy pump (it does fuel and vacuum for the brake system) not supplying enough fuel properly?
  • The problem is most noticeable at high ambient temperatures and with light throttle usage, better in the cold mornings and with more revs. (As the pump is camshaft driven the problem seems to be worse when it is rotating slower.) Has anyone else with a stuttering diesel noticed similar fault characteristics?
  • Does anyone agree with the Muppet at my local garage that oil in the fuel is normal? (sorry - don't mean to give Muppets a bad name as car mechanics but can't really use the language I'd like to)

I'm thinking of taking a punt and buying & fitting a new tandem pump but it is an expensive gamble.

What say you?

T.I.A.

The pd engines suffer with the seals leaking around the injectors In the head there's 3 basically o rings that seperate the fuel feed and return galleries in the head the seals wear and can leak oil into the fuel filter housing and fuel into the sump on really bad cases the injectors cut into the head done a couple of these recently at work.

But neither vehicle was suffering with the running faults u are describing

Maybe you have more than one fault

I would try taking it to a vag specilist

Thanks Lee_vrs for the info. Haven't seen diesel in the oil, however.

Update:

Car drove beautifully this morning in the cooler temp. Parked it at work all day. It then drove like an utter pig on the way home in the warm temperature with a light throttle - the stuttering was awful. Things were better with larger throttle openings, however.
