New (ish ) Rapid.

Featured Replies

Just picked up our Rapid today from Faintree in Telford. It feels rather nice after two HTP Fabia's . I know 3 miles isn't very long but so far I am very happy with it, 2013 Sept with 5000 miles. We liked the Fabia's though " Erindoor's" wasn't as keen on the mk 2 it's just that we have started holidaying in the north of Scotland and the HTP engine is a little bit short of go for that sort of trip. Loving all the room in the Rapid as well, fingers crossed it will be a good one !

Sure you will enjoy it

Enjoy! :-)

Trev, I am doing !    A bit of a run on Sat afternoon and am feeling happier with the 6 speed box . There seems so much room in the car , and the boot is terrific ! Still too soon to say a lot about the Rapid but the engine does feel a lot nicer than the HTP that I've had before, we sailed up some ,fairly gentle, hills on Sat that I used to have to drop down a gear in the Fabia.

So far , he say's scrabbling around for a piece of wood to touch, it seems like a good car for the money smooth engine lot's more room and a bit extra go !

Don't mean to be too hard on the Fabia . I've had two of them after all , over six years with the Mk 1 and 3 years for the Mk 2 , like this more though.

I had a 2004 VW Golf 1.6 FSI SE Auto... Which I loved but our 2013 Rapid 1.2 Elegance feels more powerful, is better on economy and has a much BIGGER boot. The only things I miss from the golf are the auto windscreen wipers, auto lights (dlr's on the rapid are good but I miss the coming home feature where the lights stay on for 60 seconds) and the indicator lights on the wing mirrors. Oh and the seats were more adjustable but to be fair I sat in the drivers seat of the rapid for four hours the other day and they were just fine as they are! I have been told that the little 1.2tsi engine can be tuned to around 135bhp but I'm waiting till the warranty runs out before heading down that road!

I complained along time ago that I couldn't fit in a Rapid (being 6'4" tall) the drivers seat wouldn't go back far enough and I felt so cramped in there. But I recently test drove a 1.2 Elegance and it was different. Strange the seating position was fine so I ordered the Sport for Sept 1st. I don't know if the later ones are different?

Anyway I love that little 105ps engine :)

Reminds me of my 1.9tdi 105 before with not much drop in economy by the looks of it.

The seats feel fine to me , but I have quite a bit of padding,  maybe different on the 10 hour drive to Scotland next month !

I really like the engine , I haven't driven a small petrol with a turbo before very impressed so far. I didn't try the 86 engine just the 105 and it is all I need. It certainly doesn't feel like a 1.2.

The only thing I am not so happy with is not having a spare wheel, may have to get one before too much longer, I have never owned a car without a spare before.

Personally a spare is a must; only the other week did I pass a car in a lay-by with an obvious failed attempt to fix a puncture with a gunk set. So I was very pleased to see a spare already in the well of our from dealer stock Spaceback; no qualms paying that little bit extra for peace of mind.

Yes i would agree that a spare is necessary.

my wife had two punctures in previous cars with gunk kit and both tyres were ruined and kit useless.

Luckily AA guy took car from motorway to tyre place.

I negotiated a spare as part of buying deal for the Rapid.

But have previously bought for my Ford Focus CC on the tinternet ;<)

I have a spare wheel but don't really see the point of it and was thinking of taking it out! I see it's an expensive and heavy option.

So you don't travel much then? Or have never been caught out "yet".

Fair doos just get AA guy to take car to tyre place. The probability of having puncture is relatively low...but it always happens when you need to be somewhere! (Sods law applied) ;<)

WHICH magazine survey said:

A massive 93% of those who entered our poll said they wanted spare wheels to be available as standard on all new cars, and the majority of the 650 comments made across three spare wheels conversations support the return of the spare wheel. With almost 50% of new cars in the UK now sold with a puncture repair kit instead of a spare wheel,

I am going to give this one a bit of time to see how I feel about it. The last two punctures I have had have been ones that I could have dealt with , slow punctures  that with a little more awareness wouldn't have needed the spare. I was just feeling a little lost without having a spare , I have always had one before. I think I will have to get one but will give it a while and see how I get on.

I do like the car though , that is a nice little engine.

Bidey I am very familiar with Sod's law , I think there is a special clause in there that applies just to me !

JonB I just wish I had your confidence  :notme:

I did get caught out once but it was in a hire car in Finland on a day with no shops open. The car was replaced at the expense of the hire company and we drove to the airport a few days later using a different firm and a car with another puncture repair kit. I don't play the lottery but I think my odds of not getting a puncture are close to me winning this week ;)

Takes a little getting used to, felt odd changing up so quickly at first, but its the only way to get the economy out of the engine.  Haven't changed my driving style at all, just find myself changing up earlier.  This is my first Skoda in 28 years of driving (and 27 cars) and am very impressed.

I too find myself changing up a bit earlier ,prompted by the arrow thing, it seems a little strange but it appears to work well. I would normally hang on to the gear a little longer , especially having had a couple of HTP's which do seem quite happy being revved a bit. I am looking forward to giving this car a long run and checking out the cruise control which is new to me.

The same for me. I'm going on a long trip with the Sport to see how it drives and mpg etc. Leaving the Citigo at home :)

I cannot stand it any longer  I've had to order a spare wheel. I am going on holiday to the north of Scotland soon and the thought of being stuck by the side of a lonely road in the Highlands with no mobile signal and a tube of gunk is too much.  £160 is worth it to be able to sleep at night !!

Very sensible Mr Bamford!!

I agree that's a wise move as I learnt my lesson in the first week of owning the Citigo. It too has a spare now :)

Where are you heading to in Scotland? :notme:

Hi Bidey,

We are having a week at Dornie in Kintail close to Eilian Donan castle. I would have liked two weeks there but the house we wanted was only available for the one week. So to break the ten hour journey home we are staying in Northumberland for a week. We usually holiday in Scotland it was Loch Lomond last  and Glencoe for a couple of years before that.

Hi John,

That sounds super, maybe next year you will need your passport ;<)

Next year try Gairloch as it is stunning there with brilliant beaches and Inerewe gardens to visit.

I know Gairloch Bidey I worked by Loch Maree when I was a lot younger and toured the pubs of Gairloch.

I lived for nearly 10 years in the north mostly north of Fort william various places up to Ullapool.

I will be interested in the vote and have followed it as best as I can ,though it's hard to see past the politicking !!

Today I have bought the spare wheel that I ordered on Tues, I don't think it's right to charge £160 for a spare that has always come with a car in the past.

Having got that minor rant off my chest it does feel good to have a spare in the boot again, you don't miss things till they are gone they say. Well that is certainly the case with spare wheels, maybe the next generation of motorists will not feel the need for these things but I sure do.

I was very pleased when I found I had a full size spare in mine.... I was expecting a slim space saver at best, a tube of gunk rattling around in the well at worst!
