Dash Removal

Featured Replies

Trying to get the dash off the Fabia, got the lower dash off now can anyone instruct me how the upper comes off as it's being stubborn!

Cheers Jack

If it's the full upper dash then it's a pain!

I've removed one, once! And don't wish to another one, was abit of a pita.

It's staying off once it is off as I'm reducing weight for project 1.8T

Would you say that it would save an amount of weight on a track car or not worth bothering! Cheers

Yeah it would save weight, not sure what you will do with things like the dash etc...

I would only recommend doing it if your planning on making a hardcore track Fabia. Otherwise leave it in and just pull the back seats out and spare tyre etc.

It will be track only! I've already emptied the rear of the car! Everything has gone so it's empty at the back! Passenger seat and carpets and all trim is going! So it's pretty serious! I'll make up mount for clocks and a centre plate housing heated rear windscreen switch and the Hazards :)

Sounds good, do you have a project thread?

Don't forget to remove all the rear door cards and auxiliaries then!

Drilling out parts of the car seems a popular one as well, parts of the bonnet etc, could always look at darksides seat arosa for help.

I've always wanted to go all out and strip a car for track use but never really wanted to destroy any to much, I always have "resale" holding me back. I'd end up removing the screen wash bottle and everything haha

Total upper dash might save around 4 to 5kg.  Basically just removing the passenger airbag saves a similar amount. :)

Yes it's in my project thread, link on my signature below! I had no issues with resale value as being a 1.2 originally it didn't have any value to start with lol!

So it's just as well to drop the airbag off and leave the plastic then! Saved me some work :) and also giving me an entertaining time in a field!

I would leave it in, unless you are removing the heater unit too (which is massive and heavy)

the plastic itself doesn't weigh much and there is a massive amount of wiring hidden behind it which will take some tidying afterwards.

It can stay then! Thanks for the help :)

On mine I removed the rear door window regs and bolted the glass up in the closed position with a long bolt.and swapped the fronts to wind up windows. Saved quite a bit. Also swapped the lock motors for basic ones with no electrics in etc. Lots of bracketry in the rear to remove if your going to just track it.

I used PVC window fitting lock wedges to hold them up!

How much did you save on the motors?

Might have to sit outside your house and catch the parts flying out the side/back of the car :P

Well as I've got too many random bits lying about the garage I've had to put it back in the car and everything is stacked up to the roof!
