Please help with my Octavia 2.0tdi pd I'm clueless

Featured Replies

Hello guys I'm new here but I need help first of all which oil should I use I've read my manual but it doesn't give me the normal code for example 10w40?? It says vw 506 01??

Also a problem with my passenger side brake I always keep an eye on my mpg and recently it has gone down rapidly

I found the problem , my passenger side brake is sticking a bit I know this because I got home from work last night at 2am and my disc part of the brake was literally glowing red hot

I've checked my brake fluid and that seems full and I don't know what else to check

is it a big job or just a case of new pads ??

please help thanks in advance

First the oil - If you go onto carparts4less.co.uk or euro car parts and put in your registration number it should give you the options for oil that is suitable (you can also use vw 507 00) which is Catrol Edge 5w30.

The brakes sticking could be a number of options and will require investigating / stripping to find out.

It could be one / all of the following in varying degrees. If you are not confident on how to do this then get a professional to do it as you will need a caliper wind back tool for the caliper piston.

1. Seized handbrake cable

2. seized caliper

3. seized brake pads

In the link to Brakes at fault you mention getting Briskoda discount at Euro Car parts. How do you prove Briskoda membership?

Just about to replace rear brake pads on my 2008 Octy L&K 2.0 TDI - first change in 93,500 miles.

Just mention Briskoda either over the counter or on the phone.

If it's a PD140 without DPF, the correct oil is 505.01 which is a 5W/40    Comma do a very reasonably priced oil for the PD engined cars, you will find it on camskill.co.uk

Just to add, this is if the car is on fixed servicing.

If you are on variable servicing regime then it will be detailed as 506.01, but this has now been replaced with 507.00.

Whatever servicing schedule you are on, I would use 507.00 anyway as it is better quality oil.

Hi All

Further to my earlier post about brakes and discount at Euro Car parts - thanks for quick response Silver1011 (& the Like on my other post). I've checked on their site and there are 14 different options for rear brake pads for my 2008 Octy L&K 2.0 TDI. Options seem to cover Brake Systems LUCAS or BOSCH and then with or without wear indicators.

There are no obvious wires coming from pads so I assume it doesn't have wear indicators - please correct me if I'm wrong and how else I would check.

My calipers show VWAG TRW which are not mentioned in the ECP site. Would any of the pads fit or are they specific to the different brake systems and how do I find out which system I've got? Any help appreciated.

Hi guys, hopefully this bit of info can help a lot of us if you find brakes sticking. Just had my 2008 tdi octavia vrs in for a mot and it failed due to an severe imbalance on the rear brakes. The rear drivers was fine the passenger side would work at random.

Pads, discs and calipers were fine, brake bleed was carried out and was fine, servo check was fine as the problem would only occur when car engine was switched on. This had my experienced mechanic stumped. He spoke to a couple of other mechanics and discovered that the brake flexi pipe which connects the brake pipe to the caliper has been known to collapse internally causing the sticking due to fluid getting through under severe pressure.

One brake flexi pipe change later and another go on the rolling road for the brake imbalance test confirmed this as the issue had been resolved.

Thought i should share this just in case anyone had any similar issues.

Glad you got it resolved, but it's not an issue I've heard of (I'm no expert though).

Certainly something to consider if anyone else experiences similar issues that are not attributable to the calipers/pads.
