Yeti black trim - G/Techniq?

Featured Replies

Just got my yeti yesterday .... I'm a bit of a keen amateur detailer so the amount of black plastic trim is an issue I want to be on top of!

I've used autoglym trim gel before but it doesn't last that long and with the yeti having so much black trim I want something that will last.

I've been looking at the G/Techiq range and think the C4 is looking a good option. Can anybody confirm if this would do a decent job that will last a little longer than the regular off the shelf options...

I know they are small bottles and a little goes a long way but I doubt one bottle would do a yeti would it?

Edit: just noticed they do a 30ml bottle .... Would that be enough?

Hi sonax bsd will do the job. I'm on my third yeti now and never has a problem with black trim. And theirs much less of it in the face lift now.

Oh and to answer the question yes the 30 ml would do the whole car.

Sorry - thanks for moving.

Bit confused about you mentioning The Sonax as Thats for paintwork isn't it??

Then you say the 30ml bottle of C4 would do the whole car.

I'm only asking for info on the plastic trim ...

I'm only giving you answers about the plastic trim...

Sonax bsd can be used on your paintwork plastics and even glass and it's the best I've ever used on the plastics as it beads water like nothing else and keeps the plastics looking black.

As for the 30 ml yes I said it will do you whole car I never said it would do the paintwork, I understood your question sorry you didn't understand my answers.

I'll keep quiet in future.

lol quality set of lads then the above. Made me grin anyway.

Not the usual round here. But all was meant well so hopefully 'nothing to see here move along'

On subject just used C5 on wheels and it does go a long way only use a tiny amount.

15ml bottle did all 4 18" alloys inside and out with some left in the bottle.

Never used C4 though.

Sorry Dinski - my mistake - I thought you'd gone off on a bit of a tangent. I didn't realise the BSD Would be suitable for the plastic trim.

I appreciate the info. BSD has been on my list to try for the paintwork anyway so I'll give that a go.

What you trying to say wookie? I don't fall into that category?

;)

And no problem, yeah bsd has been used by many of us on here on plastics glass and a whole bunch of household stuff.

I've been on here trying to help others for a few years now I'd like to think I have.

Oh well ill still keep trying where I can.

Nearly fell outside the category. You're one of the more helpful people here and don't stop!

Just read out of character for you - made be grin - nothing bad intended at all.

I should step back into the shadows now as I think I'm just stirring things up. Which I don't want to do.

You only live up the road and one day we will meet!

If I could do emoticons I'd do one that says sorry and some form of kiss and make up. (Or shake hands!)

On the C4 subject I don't like the idea of protecting the car that well!! Takes the fun of waxing / polishing away!

Sorry I was kidding I did put the little wink symbol.

Yeah guess I took it off topic a bit sorry op.

Hope we do get to meet at some point, everyone I've met so far from the forum have been some of the nicest most helpful I've ever met.

Now I'm intrigued... What household item have people been using bsd for? In fact I think I'm gonna make a whole thread for it...

Hi fella. I've been using Gtechniq for some time. C4 30ml will do all the plastics on a Yeti. Only a very small amount is needed when applying and then wiping off the residue. C5 is mentioned above having been used on wheels. C1/4/5 are all the same product (C1 for body, C4 for plastic and C5 for wheels) soo if any product is left over and is sufficient for another purpose like wheels then give it a go. The area to be applied to needs to be thoroughly cleaned with an all purpose cleaner and de-tarred if needed and then wiped over with panel wipe or similar to make sure there is no cleaning residue, oils or other contamination that would hinder the bonding directly of the C4 to the plastic it is being applied to. This is essentially the process needed for any long term coating and only differes to the rest of the car in that you'd polish the car or wheels before continuing the panel wipe process prior to applying.

Another product above mentioned for the whole car is a more temporary product but good in it's own right is BSD which is similar to CarPro Reload and Gtechniq's own C2v3. These offer as less glossy finish to plastics but is easier to apply in that they can be wiped on and wiped off at the same time as doing the whole car and offer UV protection from fading in the sun and ease to future cleaning. C4 does this also but will last in the region of four years from one application.
