Vrs tdi back box

Featured Replies

Loving my new vrs except, every time I walk up behind the car I can't help but notice the rear back box is visible behind the bumper tail pipe. Anyone managed to tone this down some how? Was thinking some high temp matt black paint. Cars less than a week old, will it blend in a bit better with soot :)???

I would hope that the DPF would prevent any noticeable soot from coming out of the exhaust!

High temperature paint would be your best bet.

Hi temp black paint is the solution.

Slightly off topic, does anyone offer a twin pipe back box for the Tdi similar to the one for the Tsi?

Plasti dip is only safe to 200 degrees though. I don't know but I'm guessing the box would run hotter than that?

The exhaust gases come out at 500 degrees or their about when dpf regeneration active.

The Plastidip stayed well till now. so this mean that the temp had not reached the 200 otherwhise the dip was toasted.

I can touch my exhaust for short periods after a log run (just tried it after getting home from work). My guess is that the exit pipe temp sits around 80-100deg. The backbox is much cooler.

In which case it's a good option to sort the poor look of the vRS TDI, I'd just have concerns that the stuff would catch fire on a long run!

Get some satin(easier to clean than matt) black spray and paint it. Don't worry about it being high temp paint, the back box really shouldn't get that hot, hence why the plastidip has held up. Most good quality spray paint can handle a fair amount of heat and worst case is it may discolour or peel. I've had crankcases of an air cooled motorbike i painted with regular Halfords paint for years now with no ill effects to the finish.
