3 problems and a women isn't one

Featured Replies

Hi guys the car has been sitting idle for couple months due to being written off....

I took it out yesterday for a run and the 1st problem was the wheels felt egg shapped and felt like I was in an earthquake with the steering wheel vibrating quite violently. I came back home took the os wheel off and noticed that the inside of the tire had all bubbled. So I replaced with the spare.checked the other tire and that was fine.

Took the car back out and drove spot on no shaking steering wheel and no egg shapped feeling..

So I continued driving hit a drain cover in the road and a few bumps as you do on our great British roads and all of a sudden I keep a massive thump every time I go over something from the passanger side front wheel.

And last but not least a have a very irritating squeaking noise that sounds like it's coming from the glove box.

Any help on these 3 problems will be greatly appreciated.

Keith

The tyres could have "gone oval" and/or been damaged internally by the original shunt, the non-moving storage, or the drain cover incident. Is there anyone you can borrow a set of wheels and tyres from? (other than another Furbie vRS, a set off an Octy 1 Elegance or L&K, or vRS estate are the same size).

Also, have you broken the LHF spring? That needs visual inspection, and be sure and look right up the damper to the pigtail.

Glove lid can rattle internally, can't be taken apart, only option is to replace lid to fix

The wheels I have on are octavia spiders. I could possibly use a friends wheels who has a octavia not a vrs... as I said when I put the spare on the shaking and the oval feeling wheels went.. With regards to the spring I can't see any damage and when I push down on that side there isn't a banging noise.. could it possibly be a anti roll bar that's broken? And that is causing the banging?

Also I will say that the car is quite low so the suspension is very stiff and unforgiving but I don't get the banging noise from os front wheel.

I'm not actually sure if it's the actual box it just seems the noise is coming from that direction

my glove box squeeks and rattles quite a bit, previous owner has tried stopping it with felt pads but now it just vibrates against the door card

Ok, at that rate your NSF tyre needs replacing (it will fail an MOT anyway with the bulged sidewall). That's one down.

Noisy NSF is now most likely to be spring (but you think that's ok) or a worn out bush on the wishbone or droplink, or a worn out top mount. The spring and bushes can be inspected and/or tested without dismantling, which is why I'm going for them before the top mount.

When I get home I will take the wheel off and have a good look at the spring and bushes and see if I can see anything.. I had a wishbone replaced not that long ago but where I live the roads are very harsh

What's in the lapse from being written off, and then taking the car out for a run??

@keiths - Fabia it's quite famous for it's dashboard squeeks, somewhere above the middle air vents area. Are you sure it's the glovebox?

Yes all I've done since its been written off is just start it too keep the battery going as it's meant to be going into the body shop this Friday to finally be repaired.

Yeah that's the general direction the noise seems to be coming from

Glovebox is a doddle to remove - just five screws. You could remove it and go for a drive to see if the noise is still there.
