Help! Octavia wiring

Featured Replies

Hello all!

Iv a problem with starting my Octy. as iv forgotten how it was when i removed it.

I think the problem is with the Positive and negative cables from the battery.

Basically i can crank the motor, but i have no dash lights or fuel pump prime.

When i try to connect the fuse holder that goes ontop of the battery sparks just fly everywhere and it will eventully weld itself to the terminal.

Im wanting to know if anyone can give me a diagram or pictures of how the octavia is wired from the main 2 cables from the battery.

This is how i have it.

Positive - straight to the only connection on the alternator. (The positive lead has another connection further down the cable but i cannot find out where it goes.) then ontop of that goes the alternator Negative lead that leads to the fuseholder on the battery.

Negative goes to the connection on the starter motor....

Is that correct.

its not right, but I'd go so far as to say your short circuiting the battery and that can lead to a fire and explosion. The ECU may now also be fried as a result because of all the power surges.

your description sounds wrong, everything passes through the fuse holder on the battery, there should be no direct connection to the alternator. IIRC there should be a connection from the alternator to a good earthing point (-), and from the alternator to the top fuse box(+).

Starter should go to the positive terminal via the fusebox.

I hope you've not melted any of the main loom, or damaged the main engine ECU.

Sorry i did that wrong!

I meant + to the starter, - to the alternator from the battery.

This is what i meant!

+ve to starter (direct)

+ve to alternator (via fuse on top of battery) - there is no cable to the battery - return is via gearbox/engine earth.

-ve to chassis earth point under battery tray and onto gearbox/engine earth.

You won't have lights on the dash or a running ECU without the fusebox on top of the battery being connected.

So Main positive battery feed to the starter.

Main negative to a chassis point then to gearbox.

Alternator earth is straight to the fuse holder.

Correct?

Correct?

No. The big terminal on the alternator marked +ve goes to the (110A or 150A) fuse on the fusebox.

Sorry thats what i meant, the black lead that usually melts the casing,
