How to get trim off when door won't open?

Featured Replies

So I guess my rear drivers door is deadlocked - it makes the sound of opening but doesn't actually open or move when I do either handle on both sides of the door.

How can I put 12v to it when I can't get the door trim off? Any idea?

I hope to god I don't need to take the seat out...

Also... how can you prevent this from happening again?

i had the same problem with one of my rear doors, i used the old fashioned give it a clout lol, guy from audi told me this was a common fault on some of the audi models and they always tried hitting the inside of the door panel with a rubber mallet beside the lock.. was a bit iffy about doing it but i have to admit it did work, once i got door unlocked i stripped the door down and gave it a good spray with wd40 and it has worked fine for the last 18 months. not saying this is same problem as you but it is worth ago and trying to strip panel off with the door it locked is a nightmare

When mine did this I hit the outside handle with my hand while pressing the unlock button on the key fob. After a while the door unlocked and I also soaked the lock with WD40 and it kept working for another 2 years until I sold the car.

Check the wiring between the door and B-pillar first before attempting to pull the door card off. Start simple

forgot to say you can get to the 3 tork screws on the bottom of the panel and one on the side but  you have to remove or fold down the seat, undo all the other usual screws on handle ect and gently pull the panel off if I mind rite the remaining screws are held in clips and if your lucky these will pop off without damaging the panel..

Because of course this will be really easy seeing as he can't get the door open... :D

You can get to the wiring fine with the driver/passenger door open :)

Just had the same issue, what I nightmare...

So I thought!

Thanks to the suggestions on here, less than 10 seconds to fix it. Banged the door around the door lock area whilst pressing the unlock and up it popped. Winner!

I tested it whilst the door was open by locking and unlocking and it stayed down, so same again, a couple of knocks and up it popped. A few squirts of ptfe lube and open/close operation on the fob, now she works like a gooden! Very happy bunny, cheers for this everyone.
