In our minds one of the best handling 80s hatchbacks

Not 'one of', but THE.

Would probably still show a clean pair of heels to many a current day  modern car too.

I wouldn't mind a little project one hmm maybe now the van has been written off ..... No I must be sensible

I would actually consider getting shut of my Festa to buy one of these, but it would have to be absolutely unmolested and nearly mint,...not completely or you become scared to take it out..... and that means BIG £££££'s.

I do still have a low mileage (41k) 1 previous owner + dealer very very early E reg  AX GT...............somewhere. :notme:

Very fragile (bit like the 205 in that respect) but immense fun light and quick.

I'd buy a molested one to return to standard :)

I can still remember lifting off half way around a  bend .....

Never did that again. :o

Mine is completely standard, took me a while to find the right one,the guy i bought mine off had it for 5 years & only drove it once a year to take it for its mot,it has a massive wad of paperwork inc the original bill of sale,he even gave me a original pug 205 ti16 car cover that came from a dealer, mine is 24 years old with 113,000 miles on it & it easily keeps up with modern traffic & it a hoot to drive,i think the 1.6 is a more revvy engine than the 1.9 & there isnt that much difference between the two engine wise. Its a shame mine has to stay outside in all weathers(previous owner would be gutted if he knew) only issue with mine is i have a rip on the passenger headrest & cant find one at all & im not buying a full interior just for a headrest,i may look into getting it re-covered ,i also need to look at the gear linkage as it has the usual pug issue of been a bit sloppy at times.

They will easily keep up with modern traffic. I got my first speeding ticket in one doing a reasonable amount over 70 on the motorway. Got a stern telling off from the plod but he did say that while I was fast i wasn't being stupid or unsafe.

Travelled from Plymouth to Aberdeen and back many time in it with car loadd full and never had an issue other than some water ingress, which i never managed to solve despite copious amounts of sealant.

Would love to have one again but can't justify it.

Yet there is still so much hatred towards French cars.

I've had loads of Citroens, a Peugeot Partner van, and a  Renault Clio van, and they were all, without exception, BRILLIANT.

Staggering.

Don't you get me started on the Clio Mr Ree, no it's a brilliant car really and I purchased it knowing it had those faults! Good little car it is now!

Mine was a new 1994 Clio 1.9D van...non turbo, but it still went like hot snot....and economical too.

Best van was exceedingly comfy but very basic Citroen C15 van that did actually rust before your eyes.

That was a right ole hoot, and even with nearly 180k on the clock when I bought it, it never let me down in 18 months

I was gonna say that if you lift, you die.

I remember many years ago, I was a passenger in my Dad's car and as we approached a bend, some guy in a 205 GTI was executing a rather outragous overtaking manoeuvre around said bend. When he realised that there was oncoming traffic, i.e my Dad, he lifted and my Dad then had to make room for the guy to have his "moment" :D

Time for some pics of the pug in this topic.  :D

They were like that from new!  :p

New, meaning when YOU bought it!

Bet you can feel the frame through the cover.

That's fixable you know, and not too expensive either if you've got a car trim specialist near you.

'Top Tip'

Don't let the frame rub a hole/s into the cloth either, 'cus that is greatly more difficult to replace.

What a fantastic, fantastic motor I adored my XS however the knob who stole it loved more as it never came back. Learned to drive in a 1.8dt 205 which was rapid too, from the days when Peugeot knew their onions. Am envious!

OI!

Get behind me Sparkio!  :D
