Clutch & DMF Mileage

Just wondering what the expected mileage you should get from a clutch and DMF on a 1.9pd 130awx?

Mine has done 193k on its original clutch and DMF, it's not slipping and there isn't any rattles or noises etc that makes me suspect the DMF is on its way out. It recently had a service at 192k with an independent specialist and nothing was mentioned about the clutch/DMF. 

My concern is that with that mileage should I be looking at changing it as a precaution, or am I just being overly cautious?

I do 25k miles a year 95%+ is motorway.

Thoughts/suggestions please.

Given fair treatment, the clutches on these cars have a very long life. When I have removed clutches, there is generally plenty of friction material remaining - the cause of failure being nearly always mechanical. Broken diaphragm spring fingers are fairly common, but with motorway miles (M25 excepted) your clutch could easily last for 300k miles.

 

One thing to watch if you remove a clutch from a B5,5 is the condition of the release arm. It's a puny pressing which tends to crack around the release bearing mount, or wear at the ball stud pivot. Replace if in any doubt - VW dealers always stock these and they are not expensive...

Erm I was pondering how much longer mine was going to last at 136K. But now I have an answer(ish)

I'm lucky if mine last 80k miles. As a taxi driver I'm up and down the gear box like a fiddlers elbow tho. I always replace both together tho.
