Octavia esp warning light

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 57 Octavia Estate 2.0 TDI L&K and the esp warning light has come on. The car battery was original and on its way out and I thought maybe the duff battery triggered the warning light so I changed the battery but the light remains illuminated.

If a fault is triggered will it remain until it is cleared with vagcom?

I was toying with the idea of buying a cable and software and clearing the fault to see if it was indeed a blip or should I take it to a garage and let them diagnose the fault?

Just don't want to get stung for a huge unnecessary repair bill.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Without getting it scanned its just guessing but my guess is you have an ABS pressure sensor fault, having said that it could be a fuse on the battery that's blown but that could be only on fabias and polos

Teeves MK60 ESP module fault possibly? Extremely common on Mk2 Octavias particularly those that are getting on.

Once upon a time you had to replace the module which was very costly but there is now an OEM repair kit for them which reduces the cost significantly.

My control module just went on my mk2 vrs the other day. Esp light stayed on constantly. Skoda actually paid for the whole lot to be replaced saving me a considerable bill. May be worth popping in and having a chat

If all 3 lights come on and the ABS stays on then it's possibly the ABS module. If you've FSH you might get goodwill from Skoda but it's sporadic. If not the part is about £200 + fitting which is not as bad as it used to be.

If it occasionally clears before coming back on at about 30mph then it's not the ABS module but more probably an  ABS sensor, usually at the rear where the magnet rusts and bits drop out creating the error. that mean a new hub unfortunately since the magnet is integrated.

I'd have a tenner on the Teeves MK60 ESP module. As mentioned this is a very common fault - hence the reason VAG developed a fix kit!

Skoda, SEAT and VW have been reapairing this issue on cars well out of warranty for free so I strongly recommend you try your main dealer first, ideally after scanning the car to confirm the fault code.

Thanks for the responses, very useful information.

I will contact Skoda and see what they say.
