Replacing front screen "ticket holder"

Featured Replies

My car was in for a service this morning and while it was in I asked them to look at the front windscreen ticket holder as it couldn't hold tickets - they just fell out. Appears when I had a new front windscreen fitted a few months back they broke this and it needs replacing.

They didn't have the part in-stock so they didn't do the work. I was told the part is £1, but with fitting I'm looking at around £25.

So, is it easy to replace this? I'm assuming there is some trim removal required, anyone have any guides or pictures?

Cheers.

Very easy, pull off the pillar trim, undo torque screw remove clip . Fitting is the reverse, 10mins tops.

Just be careful if you have an 'Airbag' logo on the A-pillar, there is a torx screw under it. Prise the cover off with something soft.

No. What if the pillar holds the airbag?

Search broken clip

Lift/remove the airbag sign on the pillar. It hangs by a thin plastic strip when loosened. Then you can see the torx screw. The trim is not holding the airbag. The trim is then held by two or three clips. Just be careful not to loose the torx screw into the dashboard. y2aqusam.jpg

Sorry = No airbag on my pillar.

Pull it off (straight into vehicle).

Undo torx screw on clip.

Reverse process to fit new one.

Very easy.

Not worth £26 when you can do it yourself for £1.

My car hasn't got the curtain airbag option - so I'm assuming I'm not going to have any in the pillar to worry about?

Does the trim literally "pull off"? If I'm sat in the driving seat, does the trim pull towards me?

Thanks.

Yes, look at the picture posted earlier, the bright white caps hold the trim on, you need to pull the trim off the caps so if you are sat in the drivers seat then pull towards you...

It is also worth noting that I had a new screen put in my vRS.

The clip wasn't broken but it no longer held tickets against the new screen.

The new screen was set about 1mm further out than the original, not enough to cause issue but enough to render the clip useless!

Pull it carefully from top to bottom, the bottom bit sits ever so slightly behind the dash.

I've had these in a few cars and vans over the years...

Now I know what it's for!! :D

Not even got one on my vrs :(

The tech told me that was often the case. When the screen is replaced they use a little too much sealent and with the screen no longer as flush the clip is useless. I did have a new screen a few months back, but when he took the trim off he told me the clip was definitely damaged and a replacement should fix the option.

When ordering a new one, get two and fit the other to the other side. You;ll be surprised just how often you'll use it!

So there is a mounting place for a clip on the other side too? Definitely gonna order two clips now then.

If the clip no longer touches the screen then remove it, warm it gently with a warm air gun (or V carefully over a gas hob) and bend to make a slightly tighter radius, hold in place until cool. Job done

Where u get these from any part numbers

Bringing back a very old thread I know :)

Just got around to replacing the clip on the driver's side. All went well, trim came off and I removed the broken clip - part had been snapped off and that required some long-nosed pliars to get the bit out.

New clip in place and all is well.

With reference to putting one on the passenger side as well - no dice. There is no mounting hole for one, so no "screw in place" ready to be used. In fact I've got a wiring loom running up the inside of that piece of trim on the passenger side.

Don't know if the person who had fitted one to the passenger side maybe has a pre-fl? Anyway, happy with the new clip on the driver's side.

I do however now have a space replacement clip - more than willing to send it out FOC if anyone needs it.

I wondered what that plastic thing was for, I find it annoying so i might get rid of it now i know how

Anybody know if this is the same on a Superb 2012/13?

Had a new screen fitted to the wifes car with the instruction "make sure its got that ticket clip" 2 months later she's broke the clip

Top of the A pillar trim is easy to pull away but the bottom edge as the demister vent, any clues?

For anyone that requires the part number from the dealer for a replacement ticket clip, here is what I picked up.

Below is the package that it came in with the part number (it is described as a bracket).

This is the old clip (right, with the push rivet still attached) and the new one (left).  They are identical apart from the new one has some rounded corners.

Total cost including VAT was £0.64.

Hope this helps.

I just got a universal ticket holder that adheres to the screen.
