Strange electrical problem

Featured Replies

Hi has anyone heard of this one. my hatch back has started opening when you put the car into reverse or put the lights on and when you open the back door using the catch the number plate lights flash. Also the back windscreen wiper stopped mid swipe. Everything was fine yesterday but when I got into it this morning all this started happening. I've dropped it into the garage and they are trying to sort it out. I'm just wondering if I need a mechanic or exorcist.

VCDS would help mate! Get a diagnostic check done that should bring up the electrical faults!

Yes no problem with that.

Yes no problem with that.

On other models a leak from the pipe that feeds the rear washer tends to go all over the electrical connectors and cause problems like you describe. Not sure if it effects the Roomster the same way.

Good shout, Trundlenut. It does affect the Roomster in exactly the same way.

I've managed to find the thread. Take a look at Grafitti's post #6:

The rear washer worked on my octy but was still leaking over the electrics. The boot lights and top brake lights ended up connected and the rear wiper stopped working.

well the main dealers have said that it is a short and they are just working out what parts are needed and how much it will cost. I'm getting a bit worried now. I was told that it is £85 a hour for labour. There past record isn't to good on the billing as when they serviced it last year they told me I needed £1000 pounds of work doing on it. Not bad for a 59 reg.

Sounds like something's been eating your wiring.

Or it has indeed been possessed. Do you hear voices in the static?

Dealers..........................some ok .........some defo stealers....................or find a Bosch approved auto electrician...........

Hello Alan,

+1 the above, or find and stick with a small reliable local garage, one-man-operators can be good as they mostly rely on word-of-mouth recommendation to get new business, and genuinely want to do a good job, charge a reasonable rate, so that you become a regular customer. I have a good one here on the outskirts of Wakefield, and used to use a brilliant one in Ramsbottom when I lived t'other side of the Pennines!

Also worth seeking out firms who specialise in just German, or just VAG-group cars, there's one VERY close to our local Skoda dealership, and their hourly labour rate is dramatically lower.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Richard
