Return trip Grenoble/Montreuil-Bellay, France.

Day#1: 994km / 10:11h Avg 98 km/h 7.7 l/100km

Day#2: 369km / 3:36h Avg 102 km/h 7.3 l/100km

Total: 1363km / 13:47h

If you are ever in the loire/Rhone-Aples regions these are fantastic roads to drive with

very little traffic (even on the worse travel day in the year) and great scenery.

VRS-TSI-Manual car, just under 3 months new, is working perfectly.

Love the finger control driving using just the cruise control., for hours.

Stayed within tolerance of the max speed limits i.e.. 136 km/h.

Quite happy for the performance given I had AC all the way and flipped over to sport mode when leaving the toll stops. Great fun leaving everybody standing !!! Also very comfortable. Made several stops on the first day but didn't stop at all on the second day - not tired at all.

Definitely bonded.

Note: I really need to find a excuse to go to Germany to drive on the 'autobann' as long as the roads are also empty there too.

You have ACC or ordinary cruise control?

This would have almost been a great post but then you read this:

I bet "everybody" looked in awe and wished they were you as you pulled away from the toll booth with high revs and squealing tyres in true boy-racer style.

Some people just like to suck the joy out of any situation

I agree with GordonH - having spent two weeks in Italy I thought it was a great hoot not stopping at the toll booth (at least when picking up the ticket) and dragging away up to 130km/h afterwards. Nothing daft, but good fun. Most Alfa drivers will give you a run for your money!

I've got a tag for the French autoroutes, so I don't have to slow down below about 20mph (IIRC).  As long as there isn't a queue, of course.

One of the only situations when you can legally give and enjoy max throttle. No tyre squeal as that just bad driving and too costly. Only normal CC. No others cats insight so ACC not much use here.

What's the point in having a vRS if you're not going to give it some right boot occasionaly ?

Enjoy it dude ;-)

I've just got one of those......will be using it for the first time this Friday as on our way to the Alps in the Superb (its last big run until the VRS arrives in Sept).......must admit that I'm a little apprehensive that the Sanef thing will work as it looks a little basic.........but once through those booths I'll give it the beans like I always have :sun:  :sun:

The French toll roads are fine...  Especially as they advertise any speed cameras well in advance.... Just reset your average speed when leaving a toll both... then you can stop before a long deserted stretch... after your average speed has dropped enough you can then explore the top speed of your car and arrive at the next toll booth without any issues.

This is in relation to the fact that they check your speed between booths (time stamp on ticket) and if you've exceeded the limit by too much the police want a word with you and a severe lightening of your wallet.

It works just fine - and lets off a reassuring beep as it gets detected and the gate opens...

The scary bit is when you go through a non-express lane - the detectors are right down by the gates, which are about 20ft past the booth.  So there's about 5 seconds of doubt between going past someone who could help and getting close enough for the gate to open!

Bitchti, you only get blue smoke and squealing tyres when you use "Launch Control", Sports Mode and CC is just fast which reminds me.

Steve, your a pussy, I'd have used "Launch Control" as long as SWMBO wasn't in the car, she don't like the smell but my little girl loves it. :notme:

Not so easy. The average speed of traffic on roads or highways is controlled by a new kind of radar, the "radars tronçons" . These safety cameras that monitor the average speed of vehicles on a short or long distance anywhere along the road, not just at the tolls. The only way to avoid a fine is to stay within the speed limit and use iCoyote for example to remind you of the risk zones. Still not easy to not lose points as I seem to every year :(

Have a word with yourself, you bought a skoda not a Porsche.

Just back from a week I the Alps. Sanef gadget worked great - express lane that you can drive through at 30kph - excellent. Thrashed the Superb out of every peage booth......fantastic!
