Battery and cigarette lighter voltage

Featured Replies

Just checked the voltage at the battery and 12 socket in the car and they are both showing 21 volts when the engine is running and between 14-19 when the engine is off? Not sure if this is normal or causing any damage as the car runs perfect...

I changed the voltage regulator on the alternator and it's still showing too high voltage :(

Try a different meter.

Can't get my hands on another one but i've just checked the voltage of my old corsa and it showed the exact same voltage. Guess I'll be needing a new meter now then :)

Or maybe just a new battery/batteries in the meter that's reading oddly? I've heard of some that don't die 'gracefully' when the internal battery gets low.

Put a new battery in the meter and it's now showing 12-14v as it should :D Wasted some money on the voltage regulator but it's not the end of the world.

hsve you got your multimeter set on right setting ?

if its on ac it will show about that reading.

not that ive ever done that exact thing ;)
