Just checked the voltage at the battery and 12 socket in the car and they are both showing 21 volts when the engine is running and between 14-19 when the engine is off? Not sure if this is normal or causing any damage as the car runs perfect...

I changed the voltage regulator on the alternator and it's still showing too high voltage :(

Try a different meter. 

Can't get my hands on another one but i've just checked the voltage of my old corsa and it showed the exact same voltage. Guess I'll be needing a new meter now then

Or maybe just a new battery/batteries in the meter that's reading oddly? I've heard of some that don't die 'gracefully' when the internal battery gets low. 

Put a new battery in the meter and it's now showing 12-14v as it should Wasted some money on the voltage regulator but it's not the end of the world.

hsve you got your multimeter set on right setting ?

if its on ac it will show about that reading.

not that ive ever done that exact thing
