Gearbox oil

Featured Replies

Can eny one tell me what the best gearbox oil to put in my 05plate vrs and could I do it myself or should I just take it to a garage??

Use the original VAG stuff from a dealer or TPS. Yes you can dot it yourself but you need somewhere flat to do it, as you refill the box until dribbles out the fill point, if the car isn't flat you won't get the right amount in.

Cheers pal, developed a nasty squeak when changing gear hope doing the oil will stop it and it's nothing else lol

I changed the oil at 80k miles in my old Octavia and it made gear changes noticeably smoother. Not sure about a squeak though, could it be clutch or gear linkage related? Either way changing the gear box oil won't hurt.

Oh had no service history and it's done 108.000 miles

You will need torx security bit to undo level plug and drain plug if its the same as my 2005 vrs ;)

iirc its a T16.

Gearbox oil change is not part of any service, meant to be a 'life of the box' oil.

Hi I'm new here but this topic is kind of related. Drive shaft bolts came loose somehow and started.. ahem. urinating gearbox fluid everywhere. Got the bolts back in, but how the hell do I refill the transmission fluid? I know it's empty because it dongs like a bell every time I accidentally hit it with with the wrench

It's the new seats squeaking, not the gearbox.

level/fill plug is on the front of the box about half way up, you need the tool in my link above :)
