Radio Problem In Octavia

Featured Replies

Hey all.

Looking for help with a 06 Octavia I just bought.

The radio volume seems to fluctuate at random times. It will drop the volume, then increase it again.

I have the Stream radio, and have read on other threads about the Gala feature that adjusts the sound with increases in speed. I checked the Gala setting, and it's already at 0.

I drove 50km earlier. The first 10km was on windy roads, and the radio fluctuated 5-10 times. Then I hit the motor way, and didn't get any fluctuation (I had cruise control on). On the return trip (same 50km), it didn't fluctuate at all.

I thought that maybe the fluctuation was happening when I was braking, but it only happens some times when I brake, and happens other times when I amn't breaking.

I can't see any pattern in when happens.

Any ideas?

So a quick update on this. I haven't solved it, but I can replicate the problem by banging on the armrest or dashboard with my hand.

Not sure if this additional information is beneficial though...

loose connection? Might be worth taking the stereo out and having a look just in case

I would have the unit out and have a look at the wiring too.

Could it be a loose speaker wire? Possibly at the radio loom end? Next time the sound drops perhaps see if you can detect a difference between speakers rather than a general drop in sound?

Thanks guys. Will try and remove radio at the weekend and check for any loose connections.

Regarding drop in sound from particular speakers, I haven't noticed any particular speaker/zone that loses volume. It seems to be all round. I'll listen out for it though just to confirm.

Hey guys.

A quick update. I removed the radio, and then realised that I overlooked an important bit of information in my overview of the problem. A previous owner installed an after market Nokia bluetooth kit in the car.

When I removed the radio, I saw a lot of wires that were taped together with electrical tape. I'm not in any way an electrician, but the quality of work seemed average enough. I fiddled around with the wires, then put the radio back in and it seems to be working Ok now.

Fingers crossed it stays that way!

Thanks for the suggestions.

Any chance you can re-do the connections to save it happening again?

Could do. I'll leave it a while and see if it happens again first.
