Metallic "Clunk" when lifting up the clutch pedal? :-/

I've noticed this for a while now (Citigo Sport, 4,500 miles) and it's beginning to annoy me so I just thought I would check to see if it's "normal" or a trip to the dealer job.

1. Start engine

2. Go for a drive (this step may not be necessary, but I only ever notice it when I pull onto the drive)

3. Park up

4. foot down on clutch and into neutral (engine still running at this point, obv!)

Now, bringing up the clutch at any speed above " very softly" results in a quick metallic "clunk" noise..... Anyone else have this?

At 25k miles my clutch clunk  has got worse...

It does not occur with the engine not running; it does not occur with the ignition just switched on. The engine has to be running.

It has a heavy solenoid type of sound and is very audible even when standing well away from the car.

I'm not sure that I can live with this noise on long journeys, and selling the car is going to be a problem. (I wouldn't buy it!)
