How do I use VCDS to code the 2013 Columbus that has replaced my Bolero on my 2011 Octavia VRs?

I have lost some functionality, the unit is working superbly, but just cannot be seen on Maxidot.

You'll probably need to change the communication protocol from BAP to CAN (or vice versa) in either 'Radio' or 'Navigation' (I think).

Have you added 'Navigation' in '19 - CAN Gateway' to the installation list?

That should be all that is necessary.

Yes, I have added "Navigation" in 19.

I am not sure if there is anything further that I need to add/change, because that has made no difference.

Have you checked the communication protocol?

BAP or CAN. As yours is 2011 car, you should be on CAN.

Check in 'Navigation' for the appropriate tick box.

Shouldn't it be on BAP for a FL and DDP for pre-FL?

Could be. I'm getting forgetful!

Whatever is ticked at present needs to be unticked (or vice versa) and I expect that will solve the Maxidot issue.

Haha. Yes I'm not sure either... as you say... just change whatever is already there and that should fix it.

I'm stumped now!

I am assuming that a Columbus from a Superb is compatible with an Octavia???

Andy

Yes.

My Octavia (1Z) is running a Superb Columbus (3T0...A).

>Click select control module
>Enter 19-CAN-BUS and click on installations, then tick 37-Navigation.
>Enter 37-Navigation and go into the long coding helper to set it up for the car, self explanatory apart from display type, I chose the bottom one from the list of 3, I think it was 'Highline'. Ensure 'Use BAP' is ticked.
>Disconnect VCDS
Turn off ignition, reset the columbus (not sure if this is necessary, but it was on mine) '<''>' + 'eject', then viola.

Why are you stumped?

The lack of communication with the Maxidot is almost certainly down to the Columbus using a different protocol (language) to the car/Maxidot.

One of the good things about the Columbus is that it always either protocol to be used. All you need to do is find which one you are using at present and change it to the other.

It is a simple tick box that needs changing, but I can remember exact where it is as I'm not able to access my VCDS at present.

My pre-FL Octavia (1Z) is running a Superb Columbus (3T0...A). So it is possible and that is not the issue.

Search this forum for instructions as you are not the only one to have had this issue.

PS: If Adamal doesn't get there before me, Phil-E will!

Sorted now! Everything works and can be seen!!

Thanks for advice - I must now be a VCDS expert! (Not!)

Andy

Glad you got it sorted.

Now for a firmware upgrade......,

Before the Firmware update, there is still an outstanding problem. Voice Control is not working....................................!!

Have you got a microphone fitted?

  • Author

I had Voice Control on my Bolero - I assumed that the microphone would be built into the unit??

Andy

Microphone is in the overhead light fitting.

If it worked on the Bolero I can't see why it wouldn't on the Columbus unless there is something in the 'Navigation' section to enable voice control specifically on the Columbus.

  • Author

I have enabled Voice Control in 'Navigation' - to no avail! There must be more coding needed somewhere else.

Just a thought, and I can't see why it would be, but does anyone know if the mic wiring is different between the two head units?

Given that the Columbus has two ways of wiring up the mic & BT, does the Bolero?
