Just wondered if anyone ever fixed FM issues on high end Headunit

Featured Replies

Love my used Pioneer H/U but for the lack of FM

Was planning to properly fit as all but the radio works, but I was playing with idea of fitting DAB so its fully rounded for all functions.

I wonder why the FM bit doesn't work and if anyone ever had similar and tried to fix....its quite a good high end unit so was worth it for all the bits that work, pity I can't get the tuner working ?

It seems to be getting some noise signal from the antenna, which is powered and with another unit is perfect so its NOT the antenna and powered connection to the antenna as the FM signal is definitely good into my old Sony.

When I connect to the AM I am getting like one bar of signal. The FM isn't appearing to get any ? Sounds like a poor connection but I'm not sure how smart it would be to dismantle the unit although there is a service guide I've got access to.

So I'm sure its the H/U but not sure where to start, or whether I ought to bother as I could get DAB-ICS100 for not a lot of money

However I could also get it working with the standard H/U then I don't think I'd bother with DAB which I find a bit ugly retro fitted, although I could do the CK-O DAB2011 almost entirely seamless but not sure its worth the splashout

If I wanted to be a bit quaint for a free solution I could actually hook up both H/U in my car with the radio one hidden in my dash and feeding the FM audio input to my NAV H/U....I think that would be a bit mental though :)

I think I'd start with getting a quote off a Pioneer installer. See if any have noticed similar problems.

Does AM actually work/receive stations?

How is the signal booster powered? Is that through the car side or the radio side/loom?

Nah the AM doesn't appear to tune in automatically, or manually just flipping about stations, can't hear anything but noise

However the "noise" does goes up noticeable with the attachment of the antenna so its not that it isn't being registered at all

I've tried the booster from the car and radio side (does that make any difference at all). The booster deffo gets power as if I do it to the black/blue cable on the loom side I get noticeably better signal on my old SONY.

Could be a tuning circuit fail

I was going to just try to flash the unit with latest in desperation, and possibly try and take it apart minimally to see if I could see much going on but I'm probably wasting my time there.

I've poured through threads (and avic411.com) it seems most people have issues with lack of amplification, the lack of tuning altogether is something I'm struggling to come across

Ah, doing it on AM too does indicate something other than a standards SNAFU. Tuning, should be able to nudge it a step at a time to near a known station MW - 882, 909, 1089, 1215 or similar.

Okay well I decided enough messing and after getting it on latest version possible, put int the car.
Very happy with the unit other than the FM issue, and thought I would go for a hideaway DAB unit for radio

Might add reversing cam also if I can be bothered (why not).

The Bluetooth is certainly working well and I've got the microphone mounted in front of the wheel and called wife on it, working great.

But how about this? TMC is actually working and giving traffic reports!

Now I'm baffled! IF FM wasn't working surely wouldn't be traffic would there ??????? Suggests more of a S/W issue for the FM?????? How can it do TMC with no FM !!!!
