Liking my octavia 1 more everyday!

Featured Replies

Even though its a 2.0l petrol 2002 automatic it is really growing on me. Liking it more everyday and look forward to taking it out.

So comfortable and easy to drive. It has 1/2/3 gears so easy to rev it up a bit.

Planning to get the oil and filter in the auto box changed soon. (120 quid in Cannock). It has 62K on the clock so would like to make sure it has new oil in it after 12 years of use.

Wouldn't mind changing the wheels to 18-19" low profiles as I find it a bit soft with the 17" ones. Not too keen on the rims anyway, rear ones are beginning to rust anyway (paint is bubbling).

Going to switch oil to X-Cess 5w40 pretty soon.

Paint on bonnet needs work as it has stone chips and both bumpers could do with a respray.

Cup holder next to hand brake needs fixing as it doesn't close.

oh yes I want to fix an oil catch tank also to keep the throttle body clean.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers!

I love mine, im try8ng to fit off spending more money on it lol

You'll find the standard Quantum oil takes some beating, and can be had quite reasonably at VW dealers.

Sometimes it is cheaper to get used good panels on here in the for sale section than it is to get involved in paintwork.

From experience - its probably the little retaining spring slipped in the cup holder.

thats was what it was in mine anyway.

Its not a hard thing to strip it down, just a right PITA and slow...

Agreed, but easier than stripping down the ashtray to refit the spring........aaaaaarrrrgggh :wall:

Standard semi or standard full synthetic Quantum? It has semi quantum now but I'm a firm believer in synthetic for modern engines.

I'll keep an eye out for used bonnets thanks. Have to check my paint code still. Got some touching up to do in a couple of areas.

I'll have a closer look at it. Try to prize it out and see why it's not closing. Well it closes but doesn't click to stay closed.

Fully synthetic. for paint code you should have a bar code type sticker on rear panel near spare wheel well with all that info on it

Thanks kentphil1.

oh yeah a new rear muffler. The stock just looks horrible and is dead silent. I miss my old raspy/crackly sound from my alfa boxer!

Wouldn't mind a nice new stainless steel rear box with either a wide oval tip or double pipes.

I would like a box with a deep throaty sound but not loud just subtle.  It's a  2.0l so it should be able to produce some decent sound.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

To get it out, you need to take the full centre console apart, as its screwed in from underneath.

thats what makes it a pita :D

and, if the boot sticker is gone, the same one is on the inside cover of the service log. I cant remember where, but i posted a link to a VW paint list a while back,

which gave the paint code and different names on most of the VW colours. ill find it though

Just done another 2.5 hours of driving today and no warning lights so I believe the fuel trim has fixed itself with the new MAF.

On the motorway, windy wet day, at 70mph ish the readout was reading 34.5-40 mpg. Is that ok for a 2.0l automatic?

When you lift off it shoots down to 155+ then off the scale! lol.

But when I floor it well not so near 35 mpg!

Could be worse, floor it in a turbo and you can get into single figures.

oh I can get single figures easily when I accelerate hard..

was warned the automatics are gas guzzlers

go for Motul oil,and you'll never want another oil

I know many on this forum are for this quantum oil and many of them had problems with the oil sump,is what I observed over the years, maybe is a coincidence, maybe not.My car is 13 years old 110k miles and never had any sump problems, the car runned it;s entire life on castrol and liqui moly oils, and Motul for few months

What makes you say Motul is better than Castrol Edge? What did you experience?

I have used both Motul, 300v and semi, TWS Castrol also and both have been great.

The 300v was superb in my old alfa but I probably wouldn't put that in my skoda engine, partly due to the cost and it needs changing more often.

I averaged 16mpg on my way to work last night. Was fun :)

first of all castrol is one of the most counterfeited oils on the market and mobil1 as well

Secondly if is not counterfeited is imported in many countries like mine in large tanks of 208l and bottled localy for the marke,so quality may be lost on the way....God knows what they put inside

Oils like Liqui Moly,Motul are bottled directly by the original factory and delivered on the market for the end users in bottles like we know 1l,4l,5l

Liqui Moly has only one factory in germany, and that's it

Liqui Moly is a great oil,I swich to Motul because my shop sells it and I can get it at bargain prices
