Coilpack problem

Featured Replies

Had bought a new cam cover gasket and was setting about changing them over today.

When I took out the 3rd coil pack there was oil on the bottom of it

Not really got clue what to do. Gonna go searching forums now

Any ideas folks???

Err..fit the new cam cover gasket?

The oil has leaked from the gasket and down into the plug 'ole!

yup! figured as much but does the oil in there not **** the whole thing up?

im kinda surprised its not mis firing or something else annoying

obviously hoping once the new gasket is in place no more oil will get in me'oles but do i need to clean out the mess too...like should i stick an air hose down there and put up with a face full of crud for my 'car-neglecting sins'???

Nah - the coil packs are built and sealed as an impervious unit. If they weren't, then they'd be suceptible to moisture getting in, first and foremost - never mind the infiltration of leaking oil. Plus they have a rubber boot on the end, which prevents fluids from getting into the unit, and the connection between coilpack and spark plug.

And I wouldn't worry about air hoses or anything drastic like that? No need. Just get bits of absorbent rags down there, to absorb all the oil before removing the plug - then one the plug is out of the way, get some more bits of rag down there with some solvent soaked in, to clean out your 'ole as well as possible!

If some waste oil DOES go down the 'ole, don't worry too much about it. A bit of engine oil dropped into an engine bore will quickly burn off anyway without any damage or probelms,

Good luck my friend!

That doesnt sound too bad. Would it be ok to clean up as much as possible without removing the plugs too. even for the time being?

didnt realise the packs were sealed up like that...good thing!

thanks for the advice buddy

It will be fine to leave the plug i place just clean up what you can and you'll be reet.
