Rocker Cover gasket leaking

Featured Replies

I have an oil leak from the rear of the rocker cover on my 2005 VRS (112K miles) and its also weeping slightly at the front too.

It doesnt look very difficult to replace (Ive just done the clutch myself   ) but the workshop shop manual mentions a sealant (D 454 300 A2 ). Is this something special or will any silicone based gasket sealant do the job in sealing a replacement gasket.

Where can I get a gasket other than the Skoda dealership - who never have anything in stock ?

Thanking you in advance.

I'll have a look for that too.

Can I use the usual RTV gasket sealant with the new gasket instead of the Skoda stuff ?

With a new rubber gasket, no extra sealant should be needed. A small amount of grease can be added if you want.

As above you shouldn't really need any sealant, although personally I use a very thin smear on all gaskets.

Pretty sure you can't get a gasket on its own from the stealers, iirc they only list a complete new cover with gasket.

Euro car parts sell them I think, I have one sitting in my boot from euro but came in a head set.

Got a gasket from Eurocarparts today- about £14.

According to ElsaWin you need to put a little sealant in the corners where the camshaft bearing caps meet the gasket.
