Columbus firmware and map upgrade

Featured Replies

My Columbus has the following revision levels:

Delivery Part number 3T0035680C

HW-Version H06

Sw-Version 3974

Map Version 7476

I have a few questions!

Can I upgrade straight to 4120 and is this the latest version that will work with my Columbus?

Will V11 maps go straight on without messing about with partition sizes?

I have a copy of the firmware from a VAG site, it is not specifically Skoda. Does upgrading to this change the green colour scheme (I think VAG is usually grey/red)?

Anything else I need to be aware of before going for the upgrade, eg will it mess up my bluetooth?

4120 will be fine and although you might be able to go higher it probably won't add much.

V11 maps should also go on without issue and there will be no partitioning issues as you are already on 3 with 3974. Also bluetooth should continue to work fine.

The lighting is determined by the hardware and the same firmware is applicable to vw and skoda etc.

3T0...C is, I believe, a DAB Columbus.

You can, I believe, go much higher.

There should be some benefit in terms of small increases in responsiveness and additional performance enhancements of the DAB elements.

Have a look on the 'My-Gti' website for further info.

The letter at the end doesn't signify DAB, it's a different part number (686 rather that 680 at the end).

Good spot. Well done. Ignore me then.

Thanks for the input (and briefly getting my hopes up that I have DAB :) )

I've got the firmware and software, a bunch of DVD-R's so will give it a go later today

All sorted.

Firmware is now on 4120, maps are V11.  I used the SD card method to upgrade the maps, took around an hour.

Once it had finished, I had a worrying moment when everything appeared to freeze when going into navigation.  As it was getting late, I gave up for the day.

This morning, I checked again, and all is working.

I now just have to see if it has improved its navigations skills at all :)

Nope, still rubbish at navigating :(

It has just tried to get me to go across a pedestrianised market, then through a car park, just to get back to the road I was on anyway...

I might have to go back to using my phone and Nokia Drive...

I have found that no sat nav is ever perfect... I just see them as a guide to get me to my destination.

It's impossible to acurately map every road out in terms of access, road rules, restrictions, speed limits etc.

What I do love about the columbus is it's just there whenever you need it without the hassle of setting up a phone in a mount with cables running everywhere etc.

Yep agreed. I have personally seen very little of the inaccurate ETA and awkward routing issues often quoted on here. Its by the far the best head unit I have ever had in a car, either owned or hired by me.

Me neither.

Will be testing it out in Germany in a couple of weeks time. Although it worked perfectly fine the last time we went over but going somewhere different this time.
