Numberplates transfer and retention at the same time?

Featured Replies

Is it possible to put a Numberplate from a vehicle onto retention at the same time as adding a new plate to it?

Basically I got married on Monday and as a wedding present I bought the other half a new personalised plate, but she already has one on her car that we would like to put on retention.

I was looking on DVLA website and it looks like you can do that easy enough with a V778 form (plus £155 for 3yrs)

But I can't find any information about if I can assign the new plate that I have just bought to the car at the same time.

I have the paperwork, and have paid the transfer fee for the new plate.

Would it be a case of putting the current one on retention, wait ages for logbook etc to come back with original 59 plate reg for the car, then transfer the new plate I have just bought onto it and wait ages again for everything to come back.

Or if I go to the local DVLA office should they be able to do it all in one go for me?

Thanks for any advise

John

Since all the local DVLA offices closed the process seems to have actually speeded up..... I recently put a reg onto retention then put it onto my new car. The first part was completed in 10 days (Retention cert, new logbook, new tax disc all received) and the second part was done in 14 days and that included them having to send a second tax disc as the first was incorrect.

Anyway i think the first thing you need to do would be to call the DVLA to discuss exactly what you want to do and how to go about it. ;)
