fabia 1.6 tdi from fixed to variable service advice

Featured Replies

Hi all i got my car serviced at skoda on thursday. I have had the car 8 months and have done 9500 miles . I had asked the guy at the service desk if i could change to variable service as i do about 14000 miles a year i was told this was alright so its now 20000 miles a service or 2 years.

I,m going to just service it ervery 12 months no matter how many miles i do.

The thing is in the menu where it tells you how many miles or days to your next service mine just says ....... now is this normal and am i right in saying that the fabia 16.tdi does have a sensor that checks the quallity of the oil and adjust the days or mileage till the next service . I have read some posts saying that this car cannot be on variable service plan and a bitt worried now .Thanks for your help

Would not getting serviced  every 10k or 12 months (which ever is soonest) void the manufactuers 3 year / 60k warranty. I presume you are under 3 years old with 9.5k miles.

The 1.6 cr tdi does have the oil quality sensor as do the tsi engines. Usually, they come set for variable servicing as standard from the factory. You can check this by looking at the spec sticker, located under the boot carpet. Look for "QG1". Sometimes the dealer will reset it to standard 1 year servicing at PDI as a sneaky way of increasing their business.

After a service reset, the remaining time/mileage will initially show - - -, this is normal as it takes a minimum distance and time driven until it works out what to display, usually a day or two.

Keep an eye on mileage/time remaining, if within the first month or two, it starts reducing rapidly such that 18,000/2 years wont be acheived but rather 10,000/1 year, it shows that the sensor has detected that longlife oil isnt present and the garage used the standard stuff, e.g. quantum platinum. This happened to me, and was a cause of great embarassment to the dealer...

If you're on a free 3 year servicing deal, then that only covers you for 3 standard annual services, i.e. not variable, so in your case every 10,000 miles...

Hi the car is 2 years old in december ot had done 5200 miles when I got it. Surely if it was going to void the warrenty they would have told me.the car is now on 14700 miles I would not leave it 2 years for the next service but I will do it in 1 year when I will have coverd 14000 miles say. It has been 3 days and 500 miles and the sevice indicator still says ..... I might take it back after 10000 miles and get it put back on fixed what do you all think ?

It does not Void a Warranty if you follow the Manufacturers Servicing Guidelines, (Service Schedules ) & use the Correct Parts, Fluids etc & VAT Registered Garages.),

& if you are using Skoda Official Franchised Dealerships Workshops for Servicing, they should be following Skoda Servicing Guidelines and Service Schedules.,

Oil & Filter changes are one thing.

But getting a car checked before and after winters is rather important, and low mileage cars need a professional inspection and maintenance of Steering, Brakes, Suspension as much, if not more than higher mileage cars, especially if it is not part  of the owners regular checks.

2-3 years or more without the wheels having been taken off the car might mean you will have a difficult job taking them off in an emergency

or just for a Brake Drum Check.
