430 miles from a tank in VRS

Featured Replies

and still not finished, got 20 showing to get me to the golf course in a minute, which is good as theres a shell garage up the road from it.

Really impressed, thats a non-vented tank only to the first click and still had a few bits being a **** out of dartford tolls etc, average consumption for tank is showing as 48.5 mpg,

I'm positive with a vented tank and really trying i could get 500 from a tanks

this car just gets better and better

Thats similar to what my 1.2 htp averages! Its very hilly around here mind, so it would be better if we had flat roads n i was a little more gentle haha.

So yeah, iv had 550miles from a vented tank with 30 miles still showing until empty.

The above should be achievable for you too then!

650 for me on the flat commute to work going easy

Don't know how you chaps get that many! 380 max for me. :-( maybe I'm driving it too much like it's designed to be.....

Because we drive HTP 1.2 Fabias

Haha I also average between 360-380. I could def get more out of her if I really wanted to but...I don't want to :-)

I know, it was aimed at the OP :-) a few other guys have reported good mileage from their VRS's. I don't know how they all do it!

Its the flat bit that i struggle with! Haha. It all goes to pot when i get to a massive hill. N theyre everywhere! Lol.

Same here! Doing just my commute I'm fine but anywhere else and it dropped to about 350 miles a tank

bloody hell that's good  350-400 at best from mine but I think the remap makes a difference in a negative way consumption wise not performance wise if you get that throughout the winter you will be doing very well I bet the fiesta st boys will be getting nothing like that. I have had quite a few performance fords and they have never been very economical.

A Stage 1 remap with a CAVE engine can Improve the Economy or have no adverse affect at UK national Speed Limits.

The Engine should be running efficiently.

the Factory Map on the CTHE and the change points with the DSG does seem to give good economy quite easily.

It is putting out a possible BHP between a Standard CAVE and one with a Stage 1Map.

Personally i get a better tank range in a Twincharger from November to March with Winter Spec Super Unleaded and cooler Air

& it is to be expected,

it depends on if you do shorter journeys where the oil does take longer to get to a normal & efficient Operating Temperature.

450 Miles for 10 Gallons should be easy in winter on decent length runs.

Obviously more passengers, equals less economy.

When i fill mine it says range 260 i think. I normaly get aboit 250 to a tank . To get those sort of figures you must hardly boot it atall

I once got 520 miles on a full tank with a roof box and 4 people in the car. However this was with cruise control on going from holland to germany so the roads were pretty damn beautiful! Really couldn't believe it.

My 1.4 tdi has managed 73mpg max driving like a vicar, never really tested what I get out of a full tank.. It's too yltempting to put your foot down in mine even merely being a 1.4 it has a nice kick :p

Nice going - we get 450+ miles froms my wife's new 1.2tsi dsg.

It's pretty good really considering my mk1 vRS gets 500 miles to a tank although I have more fun overtaking etc.

Thats good! Cant fault the mk1 vrs.

Is it the same size tank on the mk1 as the mk2?

Yep - I'm very impressed with it! Last tank worked out to 51mpg and my vRS worked out at 57mpg!

Both tank sizes are listed as 45 litres for the diesel and the petrol,

but then you can get 50 litres in a Mk2 without venting.

Its easier or more accurate tosay what miles you get for 9 gallons (41 litre) than talking Tank Fulls.

The 'Range' showing left is dependent on how you were driving in the last part of a journey,

and does not really tell if its 3 litres left or 6 litres +.

I ignore range, it's always well out for me.

But like George said, it bases the range from the last part of your journey before filling up.

My Shell garage is under a mile away from my house, so I pop in on my way to work. Cold engine and barely an .Avg MPG showing.

I fill up and then the range shows a miserable 350 miles. Jump on the motorway and then the range creeps up to 430.

Never get anywhere near 430 though :-(

Smiles per gallon, not miles per gallon and no canal boat soundtrack is what I keep telling myself........

Interesting one this as I just sold my Mk2 Fabia vRS and bought a 1.8tsi Superb.

I have just done the same route down to Cornwall I did in the Fabia in both stock and modified formats.  The results are really interesting from my attempted hypermileing.

Stock CAVE Fabia roughly same load and same number of people, 2 adults and a sprog

Got 41mpg at NSL (and I was a bit miffed it wasn't better)

Stage 1 car with chassis tweaks and crucially a new lower engine mount from Vibratechnics.

Got 47 mpg same speed and conditions - better torque and use of torque meant cruising could be done at slightly lower revs

Stock Skoda Superb 6spd manual 1,8tsi 4x4

Got 41 mpg also (both ways with 95 ron one way and 99 ron the other, no gains but car not optimised for 99 ron)

Tank comparisons are a little unfair as I think the Superb has a larger tank at 60 litres.  The Superb also gives the impression of having much better aero than the Fabia.

I am interested to see what effect modifiying the Superb will have on (potential) best MPG, could this get over 45mpg, driving style has major influence, as do inclines :)

Just filled mine up and range says 330. I cant believe people are getting anywhere near 400miles. Maybe on motorway runs all the time but for average person short distances work and back and around the doors. You must not know where the accelerator pedal is.. drive it like that you be best suited to a 1litre fiesta

1 Litre Fiesta's?

They are faster than Mk3 Octy VRS's you know.... :D  :x

Wrong thread sorry. :giggle:

Walterwilson85,

You are right.  if you do short journeys in cold weather and get 25 mpg,  10 gallons, gives 250 miles,

Thrashing it and getting 22 mpg willl just be 220 miles from a tank.

But you can go across to Mainland Europe, sit at 100 MPH plus for a long time and get 370 Miles plus from a Tank when on 100 ron.

But many get an indicated 31.9,  and that will be 320 miles or so.

That can be a mixture of 22-25 mpg,,  and 40-45 mpg, and the average 32 miles for each Gallon.

Some owners know where the accelerator is and how to get the performance and the economy, stay off the brakes and keep the momentum and speed

up.

420 Miles from a tank is quite easy to get at speeds that would constantly cost you your licence.

Tyre Brand, Tyre Pressures, Super Unleaded & Oil used all make a big difference with the Twincharger more than any other car i know.

Some dreamer i take it....

Unfair comment really.

I like to econo drive whenever road conditions are sub-optimal (read pointless and dangerous) for going quick, so that when things open up and I find myself on a good driving road I can use up all those saved MPG's guilt free.  As said above that can mean staying off the brakes, observation, coasting where possible etc to get best economy, but that will naturally balance some of the more spirited driving as a lifetime average.  There may even be some on here that spend 75-80% of their time in econo-commute mode and then take their cars to partake in the summer track season, fancy they know where the loud pedal is.

I think everyone who like me has been able to get high 40's or even 50's from their car giving well over 400 miles per tank would also have to admit (or in my book be telling porkies) that prolonged use of the right boot can see you down in the 12-14mpg range.

The maths therefore on a tank of truly mixed driving are simple, more right foot equals less miles to a tank.

The interesting thing is that it looks like some people on say purely motorway driving at NSL are still getting widely differing MPG.
