Fab VRS what's it sound like from the outside booting it?

Featured Replies

Hey guys

I know as stock idling, it doesn't sound great. Wish it could be a little louder. From reading up on removing centre silencer, I've heard that it transforms the sound.

With the windows down when booting it, it sounds pretty nice but just wondering what it actually sounds like from the outside? Any good? I've not had the opportunity to hear one drive by. I've had a look on YouTube but can't seem to find many videos for stock sound. Quite a few with catback etc. might be a daft question but just curious!

It sounds pretty decent when I've heard SWMBO driving off in ours. I agree stock idling and start-up is pretty poor.

I dropped SWMBO off the other day and booted it back out onto the road and she was loving the sound.

I just really wish there were some pops from the exhaust on the overrun but sadly not.

Best thing to do is get a mate to hop in and give you a drive-by. If you trust them.... Lol

As  Above, a trusted friend.

This Vid sound is not great and not as good as the real thing.

Love the review in the second video - I expected it to be in German (of which I have a basic level of understanding) but was pleasantly surprised to find it's in English.

It sounds quite good in multi-storey car parks!

Externally not a bad exhaust note, not loud but reasonably bassy under load. Also you do get a nice bit of supercharger whine and wastegate noise.....I used to give mine a bit at work as we had an undercroft/basement car park and it made me smile

Its not bad at all.

I witnessed a white one being booted around a carpark at a local meet the other week!

I was behind a lowered black Corsa at the lights this after, it was slammed and the Big Bore back box was hitting the ground, the tyres were stretched.

So i waiting for the off, i was turning left,

but wanted to watch him disappearing into the distance, so the lights changed, there was lots of Deep Noise and he got away across the junction having change gear twice, he was still only up to 25 mph and it sounded like it was going to stuggle to get to 30.

But it looked the meanest car you ever saw trying to get to that elusive 30 George!

And you still turned left?

Id of gone straight on just so i could overtake him! Haha.

Stock they sound good when getting booted. As others have said, it sounds poor inside the cabin when idling / driving normally. When I first took a test drive of a MK2 VRS I thought it sounded like a boggo polo!

If you want to improve the sound inside the cabin and outside, I'd recommend removing the exhaust resonator also known as the centre silencer. It really makes the car sound meaty both inside the cabin and outside.

I had a presumably stock car (dealer demo) pull out from a side street and whiz past me when I was on foot. It was at probably half-throttle, and I heard a pronounced whine, along with a distinct DSG fart on changing gears. I don't recall the exhaust as being that noticeable, to be honest.
