warning light on then off

Featured Replies

What do you make of this? Yesterday, started up and saw the "lamp blown" warning light come on, on the dash.

Have had it before some time ago and found a brake light filament gone - simples!

This time though, after a few minutes the light went out again. Since then, checked all lights and found them okay, and haven't had the warning come on since.

Not a big deal, but any comments?

Possibly one of the connections to a bulb is going high resistance then going over a few bumps sorts it out? SWMBOs Seat Alteas rear lights keep doing strange things. The centre connection slowly chamfers off then brings the light up and she says she sometimes gets this before the spring tension isn't strong enough to make a connection. I've no idea what's causing it though! I'd suggest next time you get it happen you stop and check all the lights as it picks up problems with all the bulbs even if they are switched off.

I had this. I checked on VCDS to see which bulb it was (before I had mxidot) and looked at the bulb.

It was fine and still working. It then blew about a week later with the warning coming on now and then.

I think if the bulbs is a little dodgy it causes an issue.

Ta.    I'll keep an eye on it.

Exactly as above, the bulb is failing. It might work on and off for the life of the car, it might blow next week.

For the sake of a few quid replace it, preventative maintenance and all that.

One advantage of Maxidot, it tells you which bulb is faulty so you can replace it without it properly failing.

Till it does something again I can't really tell which one it is. I assume if the warning light stays on for a bit it will be because a bulb is dud at that point. If that is not the case I'll have to wait for it to blow, so I can spot it.

Yeah I've had this happen a few times, normally followed by a brake light giving in completely in a day or so time.

yep, also have this issue (Octavia mk2 VRS). No maxi dot, so cant tell which bulb causing the failure, but....

Checked all bulbs, nothing!

Then I realized that the warning light came on after I put the reverse and the parking sensors emitted a continued beeep (close to an obstacle).

Since my parking sensors are aftermarket and they come on when the reverse light bulb lights (and I presume draw power from the same power line), I think that there is my problem.

Will try to duplicate again, but I think that also a plausible explanation for the rear light warning

I had this happen and I went through the bulbs and found of the rear light bulbs looked smoked, it still worked though. A short while later it blew.

I had this problem for some time before checking with VCDS. It showed there was a problem with the number plate lights. They looked OK but the connection was bad so the bulb was switching on and off.

A few minutes tightening up the connector and no more bulb warnings.

Advice? Get VCDS, or at least find somebody in your area with one.

Anyone in Brighton area got VCDS? Mind you, I'll see it when it blows anyway!

Also, got main service in a few weeks so probably main dealer could fix it. That is assuming that the warning light comes on again, or that the relevant bulb hasn't blown in the meantime.

BTW, I never thought of the number plate lights...............

The fault will stay listed until the list is cleared even after the bulb is fixed.

Good luck.

had the same as many earlier posts but with indicator bulb .light would come on & off. when i indicated right it would sound like it was blinking twice as fast as if bulb was out . checked twice & all bulbs working except one led on the door mirror ( still want to call it wing mirror old git ) . low & behold two days later bulb blows .

so as everyone else says keep checking and have a stash of spare bulbs
