cambelt and turbo timer

Featured Replies

Hi guys im goin to do a thread on cambelt and waterpump change as doin mine soon and think it will help others. Also im thinking of fitting a turbo timer as im quite often forget to sit and let turbo cool after a drive so want to fit one but anyone done this and can tell me how hard it is? And how long shall i set it at when fitted?

A turbo timer isn't needed, unless you're going to drive it hard and switch straight off? Who does that?! If you do fit one though, 30 seconds should be long enough. I've not fitted one to an Octavia, but have done to a few other cars. You connect them to the ignition wires, at the barrel is easiest.

Nk when driven hard i always remember to cool down but just want to be safe than sorry tbh had too much trouble with her since previous owner neglected her so wanna be sure i take every precaution needed

Remember it's illegal to leave a running vehicle, I've been in trouble once for that

I wouldn't waste your money on one, I'm sure you don't go from full boost to a stand still and then turn it off!! I just take it steady up the road then by the time I've pulled up it will be fine as it's been off boost for ages

Its not that hard, if you are on the motorway, and pull into the services, just let the engine tick over for a minute before switching off - Same result, no complexity.

It's illegal to use a turbo timer when leaving a vehicle on the highway (including in public car parks).

As to, say, going into m/way services, I'll bet you spend 30s to 1min off turbo on access roads and trolling for a space. Which has just done what a turbo timer would. Similarly with getting through a 30mph limit from the edge of town to your house.

So I'd say they're pretty pointless as well as illegal unless you do track days.

...and see what happens to your premium when your insurer that the car will continue to run with the key out of the ignition.
