Fuel pumps only prime when ignition turned, right?

Featured Replies

Just seen someone say that VW group cars prime the fuel pump when the car is unlocked & door opened. Might be the case for older ones, but I'm not convinced most modern ones do until the key is turned (the squirty thing)

Am I wrong?

When I unlock mine and open the door I can hear something whirring away

The fuel pump primes on my (year 2001, petrol) Octavia when I unlock the car and open the driver's door.

Petrols prime with CDL and door

PD Diesels with ignition

Older diesels activate the glow plugs with the door pin switch.

Yep, my PD makes that interesting squirty noise when the ignition comes on, gets funny looks from passers by sometimes
