Columbus online connect iPhone sometimes?

Featured Replies

Hello guys.

Just bought a used superb II with original Columbus And Bluetooth. Sometimes the unit successfully connect my iPhone, but it takes often a long time... But most of the time the mfd is only saying "initialising phone" then switch to "name of iPhone - connecting user" the. It just pe does between these 2 messages - nothing happens... If I delete the phone and pair it again - it works great until next reboot...

Also tried with a iPhone 4 - same story

Anyone know this problem?

I have similar problem in that it takes for ever. I thought it was my 10 year plus old phone but having had a Leon for a few days it connects once set up in seconds and in one go, so I presume that it is the set up in the Columbus that is antiquated.

It is frustrating but you have no choice.

What bluetooth module do you have (look under one of the front seats)? It perhaps could be solved with a newer module and nothing really to do with the Columbus.

That's the one I have under the passenger seat...

Hmmm I am surprised as that should work fine. It might be something to do with the way the way the iphone connects. It can only use "hands free" (hfp) mode so if the unit is trying to connect in "premium" (rSap) mode it will fail. These units tend to default to premium but this can be set to handsfree in maxidot I believe.

Okay, that sounds like that's the problem... Where do I disable the rSap? It doesn't Seems like there isn't any options in the mfd

I don't think you disable it as such. Its more setting the "phone mode" to "handsfree" which should appear in the phone menu on the maxidot.

Okay, it isn't anything like a software upgrade on. The Bluetooth module or Columbus? I'll try to see if I can set it as only handsfree... It's a bit lousy if it ain't working with all functions :( and only acts as a handsfree - isn't there anything that can be done?

I dont think it is software related. Only other solution is to ditch apple as they dont do rSap for some reason...

Tried disabling contact sync - worked a couple of times - but still only sometimes... What could be done? I can't find anywhere to disable rSap... :(

I checked on my car with a similar unit and I enable handsfree mode (rather than explicitly disabling rSap premium mode) by going to the MFD phone menu. Inside that it is, settings, phone settings, phone mode, handsfree.

Hope that helps

Adam

I went in to the Maxidot and used the "Hands Free" menu and it has improved the connection of my phone, it now connects in two stages which is far better than the multiple stages before.

That is what is good about this site you can learn something new all the time.

Had my car since January and the iPhone connected without any problems. Three times this this month it failed to connect, thought it may have been the car. When I disabled Bluetooth on the phone and then re-enabled it, connection reset and worked fine until next event. I wonder if sometimes the Bluetooth gets interference from other devices, since i been at home no problems. The beauty of modern technology hey!

I've finally mAnaged to get the phone connected - but I don't have any menu, where I can set the modes... My friend has a new transporter with a rns510 - connects immediately to his iPhone - can I use same bt module as his?

Not sure what menu you are referring to. With hands free you will have access to your contacts and and also some call stats like numbers dialled missed calls ect.

If you still having problems with set up, see Admals last post

The same MFD menu to pair/connect the phone is where you find the settings I mentioned above to set the mode so I can't see how you can do one and not the other. Unless the BT module is faulty (unlikely) I do not think this is solved by changing the module.

However, if your friend has a similar (either 5n0 or 3c8 module) could you perhaps use it to prove or eliminate a fault in your module by trying it in your car (assuming it is equally as accessible in a Transporter...)?

I've went through all the menus when the phone is connected - but no menu where I can set the mode - should it be done without any phone connected?

Yes maybe I cAn try swap the modules, or set my vcds on his car, and see how it's programmed...

Just tried to connect my vcds to the phone module, in the diagnostics I can see that it try to connect my iPhone on both rSap and hfp? I can't find anywhere to disable rSap in vcds either ...

As Adamal has said you not so much disable rSap, you decide which connection you need either Handsfree or rSap. I would suggest you delete the current phone from the system and start again. Connect your iPhone using Hands free. I suspect you have tried to connect to,both and that may be the cause of your problem.

When all seems lost I find delete and start over often works.

Good luck
